The low is pretty low. I would contact the repair man and have them come back out. Either you have a leak or it wasn't charged fully..

I have a set of gauges but the high side is hard to get to so I didn't hook it up...could it be the low pressure switch when the compressor cuts out at 40 psi every time...

doubt it as 40 psi is a common pressure unless you have R134A gas which is a lot higher on the high pressure side
low pressure switch activates when there is low pressure in the system and would not allow the compressor to run at all
simple checks that you can do are:-
see that the fan in front of the condenser is running when the ac is switched on IF not then the pressure becomes extreme and the high pressure switch cuts the power off to save the compressor
it could be a blocked TX valve that is causing the high pressures
I strongly suggest that you seek the services of an accredited ac specialist shop to get a proper diagnosis done and a quote for repairs

It sounds like you've done just about everything except to check if there is a bad or intermittent wire causing this or perhaps your low-pressure safety cutout switch is possible going bad causing the compressor to kick on and off?

2006 Ford Fusion Air Conditioning compressure not turning on.

Thats pretty high if the system is not running. Average pressure on the low and high side should be near outside air temp.
Normal low side is 30-40 psi and high side is 200-250 psi when the system is running and the freon charge is full.

How do you tell high side from low on ac unit.

Hi!!
On regular A/C units, the LOW PRESSURE Service Port is always located on the fatter line. the HIGH PRESSURE Service Port is the one on the skinnier line. On vehicle A/C systems using R134a refrigerant, beside the above difference, the service ports are also different from each other.
Always add refrigerant to an A/C unit thru the LOW PRESSURE (SUCTION) Service Port.
Good Luck!! A HELPFUL - 4 THUMBS - rating for this solution would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for using FixYa.

I have arctic air commercial freezer m # F2CW11 s/n# WB338336 freon R134a what psig ? low side and high side when system on

Good day,
When running, the low side is usually about 2 to 4 lbs pressure. The high side is determined by the load and the temperature in the room or area. Minimum 125 lbs. maximum approx. 150 lbs.

Low side on ranger for the port on the ac

hmm ..if you are looking for the low side air conditioner port .. then locate the condenser (thats in front of and looks like the radiator) .. you will notice two tubes going to that ..one is large the other small .. the small tube is the high pressure side .. the large tube is the low pressure side ... follow the large tube back until you find a cap that covers the low pressure port .. thats where you would fill with new refregerant (r134a) .. if you buy r134a, you can also get a filler hose and gage.. that hose will only hook up to the low pressure port ..it wont fit the high pressure port ...

Air is not very cold on a rv roof top ac what tools are needed in recharge

You should have the manual for this unit handy and as far as recharging tools go. You only need a can of R134a *(if the unit is R12 you need to buy upgrade adapters since R12 is no longer sold) Run the unit and put the R134a filler line on the low pressure side of the compressor *(from manual...dont guess as trying to charge the high pressure side is VERY dangerous). Get the charge just into the Green zone on your charger and that is it! Try not to fill too high in the green zone....I know it sounds funny...but AC's usually work better when they have the low end of their optimum fill. R134a doesnt work as well as R12 so be sure you buy the R134a with cooling enhancers. Your local Autozone can guide you to the right filler/product combination.

Good luck and be careful!

Where are the high and low side connections for the ac located

I assume you mean the High pressure line and the low pressure line. They run from the compressor to the condensor on the left side of the engine compartment as you face the engine. If your trying to identify which is the low pressure line. Your refill fitting will only fit the the low side if you have R134A . If you have R22 refrigerant you will need to get the Haynes or Chilton's repair manual on the vehicle to identify the proper line. There is normally a small dryer on the low side. If you don't have the manual for this a pressure gauge is a necessity.

R134a recharger nozzle won't fit on low pressure service port.

The low pressure port on the 2003 grand am is actually behind the engine, near the firewall on the passenger side. Good luck getting your hose down there though, I ended up buying an extension hose.
