Question about Dell Dimension 5150 (DIM515MIN) PC Desktop
I used to be able to play dvds in my computer and now I can't. I got the computer in 2006 and I remember it being finicky for a while. It sometimes wouldn't recognize that there was a dvd in the drive and I'd have to reboot or eject and re-insert dvd. Now it doesn't play it at all. I recently got an new Nvidia card (geforce 8600 GT) and I thought it was because my power supply wasn't keeping up with it, so I also got a new 550W power supply but it still doesn't work. If I used Windows Media Player, or Media Center it'll actually go to the BOSD screen as a "stop" error and it'll blame the driver: nv4_disp.dll, but I'm thinking the dvd player is just shot. The dvd player will recognize and play PC DVDs like Battlefront II, and recently I was able to get to the menu of the dvd: "Finding Nemo" (I was trying a lot of different dvds trying to get it to work.) but when clicked play on the menu it just stayed on the FBI WARNING screen until I ejected it. I read in another article here that a person had the same problem and just updated the decoder, but I don't know how to do that, or if it'll work. I went to dell support and reinstalled my driver for the drive but it still doesn't play dvds. My dvd drive is: HL-DT-ST DVD+-RW GWA4134B. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Just wondering if you have tried a good DVD Cleaner and see if that Helps you out sometimes the optics on the laser gets so much dust it can't read the DVD and will more than likely read CDs but not DVDs Try that see If it works. I have the same computer and two burners in it, and have had the same thing happen just a good cleaner and I was up and running,
