Question about Meade Polaris 114mm Equatorial Reflector Telescope

1 Answer

Meade Electronic 114mm--Question--when the motors are locked finger tight (or tighter) should the telescope move at all in the horizontal or vertical when gentle pressure is applied? When I try to view and my eye presses gently against the eyepiece the telescope moves off target? thanks walt

Yes, the clutches are designed to have some slip to avoid damaging the gears.

Motor tries but cannot move on the horizontal. Moves fine on the vertical. Usage only in Alt/Az mode. Only have the electronic controller that came with the scope.

You did tighten the AZ clutch? You did start from the HOME position? (turn the scope Counterclockwise to the hard stop)

Then you will either have to send it back to Meade for repairs, or open the bottom of the base, and look inside and see if the AZ worm gear is actually meshing with the motor. It could have come loose.

I took apart the vertical support arm and need to insure that I am putting it back together properly as it will not currently move vertically, horizontal is ok

Here is the manual-
http://www.meade.com/manuals/TelescopeManuals/Reflectors/DS2000%20manual.pdf

If the motor does not work it can indicate-

A broken wire inside

A broken altitude motor

A broken motor control circuit board

Only the first one listed above can be fixed by you. The scope must be returned to Meade for either motor or electronic repairs.

Are the batteries FRESH? if they are you may have a bad motor. Contact Meade customer service:

It sounds like BAD batteries. Try new ones first before sending it to Meade.

MEADE ETX 125 Motors have stopped

The ETX125 is notorious for bad motor control. Weasner's Mighty ETX web site has links to repair centers that are more reasonable than Meade. They also have a QA section to assist with diagnostics.

Horizontal moter problem

This is probably not what you want to here but it most like needs to go back to Meade for repair. There website is here: http://www.meade.com/.

You may want to also check here for further support: http://www.weasner.com/etx/menu.html. Mike Weasner is quite knowledgeable about the ETX line.

Good Luck!
