Question about Dyson DC05 Bagless Canister Cyclonic Vacuum

1 Answer

My dyson DC05 has been playing up for a while. The motorhead would start fine with green light on and after a few minutes would stop and light would go green. then the power would go on and off - seemed to only work when I had the handle a certain way. Now no power at all. is there a way that I can check if its the power in the handle section as thats the only way you can turn this machine on? Thanks in advance

As the wires that control the motorhead run all the way down the hose it is a break in the wires you will need to buy the hose assy sorry its not thesort of thing you strip down and repair

Instruction manual is lost how can i get a new one?

Dyson has the manuals for some of their products on their product support page. See http://www.dyson.co.uk/support/dc05/dc05-absolute and look on the right hand side of the page. The direct link to the manual is http://www.dyson.co.uk/medialibrary/Files/Dyson/Support/downloads/UK/floorcare/Manuals/dc05_uk_manual_120710%20pdf.pdf . If you have a different DC05 model start here: http://www.dyson.co.uk/support/cylinders.aspx and select your specific vacuum. (The manual appears to be the same.)

I hope this helps.

You must shure to see the videos, and see if the parts installed is o.k or are not. You must test the belt is broken, worn, or bad installed. test the motor for brush, bearing and lubrication, and finllay the thermal fuse inside or thermal switch.
God bless you

Dyson DC05 MotorHead schematic

Hi David,

Unfortunately the DC05's Motorhead is supplied as a complete assembly, so we're unable to offer individual components to repair your Motorhead. If you'd like to order a replacement Motorhead assembly, you can do so via our Helpline on 0800 298 0298, or through our online store:

Red light is on on dc05 motorhead, its usually green, loss of suction.

Hi there, VacuumGuru from VacuumSpot.com.au here. There are a couple of common causes of the red light being on. The first and best option is that there is a build up of dust and **** in the end caps of the roller itself.
This is relatively easy to sort out, just remove the base plate - it has little turn type tabs. With the base plate off just pull up one end of the brush first and remove the end cap (little dust cover) and clean it. Then put the cap back on and lift up the other end and do the same. Take a moment to get the hair and stuff off the roller too.
Now all you have to do is pop the baseplate back on and retest it.
If its now green all good!, however if its not it is in the mechanics of the head for which there are no spare parts. Unfortunately this means you will need to get a new one.
You can get a new head from Vacuumspot.com.au or NelsonVacuums.com.au
Hope this helps you out!
:)

I changed the motor in my Dyson Animal hoover and works fine but after 15 minutes it stops as if it was turned off, if i leave it for a period (2 hrs)it will start up again and work for a further 15 mins...

Hi there

All Dyson vacuum cleaners are fitted with a thermal cutout, which will switch off the motor if it becomes too hot. This is normally caused by a lack of airflow to the motor, i.e caused by a blockage or a dirty filter.

I would make sure that you have completed the full blockage procedure and have thoroughly washed the filter and see if this helps.

Kind regards

I have my Dyson DC05 for few years. The 'Red light' on its turbobrush is on and cannot get it running. Can anyone help? Thanks, Angus

Hi there Angus, SmartAlec from NelsonVacuums.com.au here. That light normally means the motor is stuffed but it will also light if the roller cant spin. So just check there is no obstuction stopping the roller from turning and also remove the roller and take of the end caps and clean out the debris that ias likely there too. If this isnt the problem unfortunatley you will have to get a new head. Hope this helps. Happy Vacuuming :)
