Question about Microsoft Office Outlook 2003 for PC

1 Answer

Adobe Acrobat 8.1 will not finish the install

I have attempted to download and install the free version of Acrobat Reader 8.1 5 times now and 5 times I have to un install it and try again. That same problems happens each time and that is:
It will complete the download and then begin the install but when it gets to the part about " accepting or denying" the license agreement I can do neither. No matter which of these options I click on I get a screen which tells me " the licensing has been denied, this program will now quit.
I cannot now even use the older version of reader which was on my computer. I do use the Mozilla browser but I did follow the Adobe instructions for downloading using Mozilla. I printed those up and followed them exactly. I am at a loss as to what to try next. I really NEED to be able to have a format for reading and using PDF files. Any ideas on what I can try next???

Thanks for trying to come up with a solution, but I have already tried this and it too did not work. I also go ONLY to the Adobe site not wanting to try a third party download but at this point I am going to give that a try as nothing else has worked.

Thanks for the tip and the web site addy. I will give that a try. I am using Windows X P , have a Pentium 2 processor and yes all my virus fighters are current. I also did a complete PC clean up and used the fix wizard too just to be sure all was a ok before downloading.
As for the online scanners no I didn't because until now I did not have any web sites for them. Now, thanks to you I do and will certainly give them a try too.

I have come to the conclusion that the problem I was having installing the Acrobat Reader was due to a flaw in the new 8.1 edition and NOT my computer. I went back and downloaded the 7.0 version. It downloaded and installed completely without a hitch!! Thanks to all who have tried to help. I think right now someone should spread the word about version 8.1 so that someone else doesn't have the same problems I did

Try using the following link to download adobe reader. Be sure to put in the correct operating system. There is a chance you are picking up an incorrect version of adobe reader that you are attempting to load.

This is the adobe site (www.adobe.com) for other versions (some non current) of the software -- you can choose a specific version off of this site offering you the opportunity to backaway from 8.1 to another version that might work -- it takes into account OS and assures the version is compatible.

What Operating System are you running?

Have you run a virus scanner lately? Is it current?

Did you get a second opinion using an online scanner like Panda, Trend Micro, Bitdefender or F-secure?

  • david Dec 24, 2007

Yea -- from your first note working is better than not working.

    Good job.

How do i download Adobe Acrobat x Standard for Free?

Acrobat reader is free. Acrobat pro is not free.
There are other free programs to create PDF's. Really, Adobe is offering the readers for all systems for free. Be aware sometimes PDF files are password protected. You even can't read them with acrobat reader, if you don't have the password. Just visit the Adobe website to download a free version for your system.
Now you can get the 11 version here:

Ensure that you only have one version of Adobe Acrobat installed. I've found that often enough, if Reader and the full version of Acrobat are installed at the same time, it can cause problems like these.

If that is the case, try uninstalling Reader, so that only Acrobat Standard remains.

What is acrobat reader?

Adobe Acrobat is a family of computer programs developed by Adobe Systems, designed to view, create, manipulate and manage files in Adobe's

Plug-in from Adobe. It reads documents in PDF format on any platform.

A program from Adobe that lets you capture a document and then view it in its original format and appearance

Adobe has changed the names of the products in the Acrobat family regularly, also splitting-up, joining, or discontinuing products. Between version 3 and 5, Standard and Professional versions were one product simply called Adobe Acrobat.
As of October 2009[update], the current main members of the Adobe Acrobat family are:
64px-adobe_reader.svg.png magnify-clip.pngAdobe Reader 8/9 Icon
  • Adobe Reader 9 (Windows, Mac and Unix)
  • Adobe Acrobat 9 (Windows & Mac only; no Unix version)
    • Adobe Acrobat 9 Standard
    • Adobe Acrobat 9 Pro
    • Adobe Acrobat 9 Pro Extended (includes Adobe Presenter)

The latest version
Version 9.0 Adobe Acrobat 9.0 was released July 2008:[10][11]
  • PDF version 1.7 (and prior) supported. There are Adobe extensions to PDF 1.7 for Acrobat 9.
  • Product Family includes: Acrobat Standard 9 (Windows only), Acrobat Pro 9, Acrobat Pro Extended 9 (Windows only).
  • Pro Extended Version includes Adobe Presenter and the features of Acrobat 3D.
  • The ability to create Acroforms was restored to Acrobat Standard in this release (in versions 6 through 8, Acrobat Professional was required).
  • Enable real-time collaboration of PDFs with synchronized document views and chat.
  • Improved Web Capture for capturing entire web pages or just some parts into PDF.
  • Integration with acrobat.com to enable storage and sharing of PDF files.
  • Personalize a PDF Portfolio with customizable templates for navigation and branding.
  • Compare and highlight the differences between two versions of a PDF document.
  • Insert FLV (Flash) or H.264 video for direct playback in Adobe Acrobat and Adobe Reader.
  • Convert a variety of video formats to FLV for playback in PDF.
  • Create PDF maps by importing geospatial files that retain metadata and coordinates.
  • OCR PDFs (Paper Capture) using ClearScan. Adobe ClearScan technology creates custom Type1-CID fonts to match the visual appearance of a scanned document after optical character recognition (OCR). ClearScan does not replace the fonts with your system fonts or substitute them by Type1-MM (as in Acrobat 8 and earlier versions), but uses these newly created custom fonts. The custom fonts are embedded in the PDF file (this is obviously mandatory). If the OCR does not recognize a word with enough confidence, then the image (bitmap) of the word is shown in the PDF and the text is put above but hidden (same as what is made in "Searchable Image" mode).
  • Adobe Reader 9 drops support for Adobe Reader Extensions 5 and 6 which permit Adobe Reader client software to save changes to filled-in forms in PDFs. Adobe Reader Extensions 6.1 and newer are still supported. Legacy PDFs will still be viewable, however they will open with the warning "This document enables Reader capabilities that are no longer enabled in this Reader version."[12]
  • On March 10, 2009, Adobe Reader 9.1 was released which addresses a number of customer workflow issues and a critical security vulnerability while providing more stability.[13]
  • On May 12, 2009, Adobe Reader 9.1.1 was released which addresses two critical security vulnerabilities.[14]
  • On June 9, 2009, update version 9.1.2 was released which addresses a number of critical security vulnerabilities.[15]
  • On July 31, 2009, update version 9.1.3 was released which addresses a number of critical security vulnerabilities.[16]
  • On October 14, 2009, Adobe Acrobat 9.2 was released (added support for Windows 7 x86/x64 and fixed many security issues).[17]
  • On January 12, 2010, Adobe Reader 9.3 was released which addresses a number of critical security vulnerabilities.[18]
  • On February 16, 2010, Adobe Acrobat 9.3.1 was released which addresses two critical security vulnerabilities.[19]
  • On April 13, 2010, Adobe Acrobat 9.3.2 was released which addresses several critical security vulnerabilities.[20]

Cannot use reader 8.0,cannot remove it or install 9.0

oddly enough, you may find that updating the version 8.0 you have to 8.x will then allow you to remove it (or it will work correctly) can you open the reader manually in the programs list? if so open it, then go to help and check for updates. apply the updates. If they work you should be in good shape.
