Only two ways, First thing you could try an ezout but might be to small, Second you could replace the cartridge witch would give you new threads but you still would need the screw. They are both available at lowes home improvement center.

Hi I only have cold water coming out of my shower when I turn it to both positions Thanks

Providing you have hot water everywhere else except shower, you have a bad mixing valve. Turn water off to your shower. You can pop out center piece of your plastic handle then remove screw and the rest of handle. There is a kind of c-clip that goes through the brass stem, through a slot in the side, you will need to remove, it might help to push in on mixing valve stem. When the c-clip is removed, the mixing valve should pull out from the brass stem. Depending on whether original install, if grease was used, it should pull out with some twisting and prying.Note how it comes out because you will want to put new one in same way. Sometimes these can be a real pain to get out, I have never broken one but, they can be tough and you don't want to break your lines. After old one is out, do the best you can to clean out inside valve. Make sure you apply grease to new valve. If water is backwards after install of new valve, hot on right, remove valve and turn 180 deg and re-install.

Getting hot water when shower valve is first opened.

If I understand correctly, you have single handled shower faucet.
Normally there is a wait for hot water to arrive at faucet.
But now hot water is already at shower faucet.

Single handled faucets have a mixing area inside valve where hot and cold come together before going into sink.
This mixing valve can have crossover where the hot and cold can pass through to each other even when faucet handle is off. When single handle faucets get old, this can happen.
How it happens:
For example another faucet is turned on inside house, and pressure differential between hot and cold causes hot water at shower handle to pass through mixing area and into cold water line.
So if another faucet has been run, then that lets hot flow to faulty single handled shower faucet.
To confirm this is the problem: turn on other faucet and put ear against shower faucet to listen for moving water.
This condition may also signal there is a water leak.
The problem is not harmful, but will draw cold water into water heater each time, and is energy wasteful.
Replace faucet or have plumber repair problem.

As you look at your valve on the right you will see a large screw fitting.inside this fitting is a temp/ pressure balance spool. it has failed for some reason and needs to be replaced. On both sides of the valve are 2 smaller screws. these are the water shut off valves. turn off the water and remove the larger screw fitting. remove spool and replace. Hope this helps.

Delta shower faucet loses pressure when turned all the way on (hot water). What could cause this? When it first happened yesterday, a few tiny pieces of black plastic/rubber fell out of the bathtub...

Turn off the water to the home. You need tthe stem beneath the handle. Remove the handle after locating the set screw, remove the cylindrical beauty cover, and unthread the retaining nut to access the valve stem. Take it to a plumbing supply house or home store to make certain of the match.

Sure - there is always help at FixYa!

This sounds like a bad cartridge. They can be replaced. To replace the cartridge:

Turn off the water to the tub/shower.
Remove the handle cover (it should pop off)
Remove the center screw (usually phillips head)
Remove the retaining clip holding cartridge in - you can use a pair of long nose piers or a small screwdriver
Grab the cartridge with a pair of pliers and pull straight out. It may require a little force - there are O-rings around the cartridge to keep it from leaking.
Check the cartridge bore (the hole where the cartridge was removed)
Clean any debris or scale - lime away or CLR will work
Apply a little bit of soap around the new cartridge to help it slide in easier. Push it all the way in and make sure it is seated. Re-install the clip (you should have received a new clip with the replacement cartridge)
Turn the water back on a check for leaks
If OK, reinstall the knob screw, and cap.

Let Mom take her warm shower...:)
