Question about GE Refrigerators

1 Answer

Fan in freezer not distributing air, fridge is warm. Water leak.

Fan in freezer not distributing air, fridge is freezing in bottom, 55 up top.
Looks like the water cooler in fridge is freezing, causing no water to be dispensed. Ice maker works fine, when temperature is low enough (since fan is not blowing air up there).

Also, the ice maker leaks water, but I'm going to check to make sure the fridge is level, since water seems to spill out somehow. Tried adjusting the icemaker, but never checked level.

The fan should be distibuting air to the frige not the freezer,so,that is not the problem, unless the fan is blocked to the freezer, and pushing air down to frige.Remove the rear of the freezer unit and inspect the coils, are they froze up?If so,the defrost timmer is not working, and or the drain under the coils is stopped up.Crumbs from food and mold build up will cause this, and will feeze the drain up.Unstop the drain with very hot water (unplug frige). When the drain clears(it is a mess)empty the drip pan under frige. Then check the heaters to see if they get warm when you manualy turn the defrost timmer to defrost. Then see if the timmer ever cuts off by itself. If the timmer cuts off by itself, then the drain was the problem,if not, then the timmer needs replacing,if the heaters warm.If the heaters don`t ever get warm, replace the heaters.I hope this was some help.Let us know if it was, thanks.

Refrigerator portion on top does have cooling but freezer on bottom works fine. I have read that the cooling all happens in the bottom and a fan transfers cool air to the the top.

if the fridge part is cool and freezer is fine what problem are you having?is the fridge not cold enough? a common problem with bottom mount freezers is the freezer door doesn't get closed all the way, warm air enters the freezer mixes with the zero degree air and freezes up the air ducts, when you open the freezer door you should hear the fan blowing,if it is check the ceiling in the freezer to see if ice is on it,check the packages for frozen water droplets and stick your hand in the fridge where the air ducts are to see if you can feel cold air blowing into the fridge,if you can't feel air blowing into the fridge, unplug it,open the freezer door, remove the top basket and remove all the food out of the bottom basket, with a hair dryer blow into the back wall into the vent holes and melt out all the ice in the ducts, you'll see water dripping down through the vent holes, when the water stops dripping plug it back in and see if the fan is blowing the air into the fridge.also you can remove the bottom kickplate and you should see a tech sheet in it,read it and it will tell you how to put the machine into defrost,it will stay in defrost for like 20 minutes, you can do this instead of unplugging it, there's a heater that comes on behind the back panel in the freezer, this can help you melt out the ice but if it seems to hard to do just unplug it.

The model number is TZ21Q2L . The freezer is working ( has to be kept up high though or it doesn't freeze properly) but not the refrigerator. Everything is warm. Cleaned out underneath but still isn't...

all the machine does is blow cold air from the freezer to the fridge so when you open the freezer do you hear the fan blowing?if not you have a bad evap. fan motor.also is ther any water leaking into the fridge section?pull out the bottom draws and if water is there you most likely have a blocked drain and it's freezing up the air ducts, one more thing to check, put your hand on the back inside wall of the freezer,if there's like snow or ice on the wall you have a defrost problem.let me know what you find.

After you open and close the refrigerator on top, the freezer drawer pops open. it is now leaking water.

check to see if the fridge is tilted back a little so the top door closes with just a little shove, also if there isn't any weight on the freezer door it will pop open, put something on the door,a bottle of water that will freeze or whatever you want,it could be leaking from stuff melting from the door being open, is the water dripping from the door?the door does freeze up and will melt out if door is left open, hopefully your air ducts didin't freeze up,make sure you can feel cold air blowing into the fridge section,if not heat up the back wall where the evap fan motor is with a hair dryer the air ducts are near there and check the freezer ceiling for frozen water droplets, hopefully everything will freeze back up with the door closed.

Zanussi integrated fridge freezer, top half fridge not working

It appears you need to get the cold distributed from the freezer section to the frig section. This can only be accomplished by a fan that forces the cold air throught openings between both sections. Since the freezer in at the bottom, cold air cannot go upward, thereforethe fan. Chech that the interior fan (in the freezer section) is running. Check that the air openings between the sections are not blocked. Finally, if all looks good, then maybe the compressor system is slowly failing and only making enough cold for the freezer, but not enough to be circulated. Goodluck, Macgivor

Freezer not freezing & fridge warm at top and freezing at bottom.

Check and see if you have a fan that is not working. A condenser fan might just be your problem. The air is not circulating right. If this isn't the solution try turning the frig off for a couple of hours to see if it will correct the problem. BB

Dec 15, 2009 | GE GSS22SGPSS Side by Side Refrigerator

1 Answer

The freezer side does not freeze on the top shelf. The refrigerator freezes everything in the bottom but reads 47 degrees and doesn't cool the top shelves. The fan under the fridge runs fine.

Behind the back wall of the freezer about halfway down, probably behind the light bulb (if there is one there) there is a fan. My guess is that the fan isn't working, or is slow. To test, open the freezer door, then hold the door switch closed and listen for the fan.

This fan should be blowing air up the back of the freezer, and send some of the cold air through a vent at the top of the freezer into the fridge. The air then descends through the fridge and reenters the freezer through a vent at the bottom. If the fan is broken, or if the upper vent is somehow blocked or broken, the cold air will enter (rather than exit) the fridge side at the bottom vent. Because cold air tends to descend and warm air rises, the cold air will freeze the stuff at the bottom of the fridge, and the thermostat (at the top of the fridge) will say it is warm.

I have a Kenmore Cold Spot fridge, freezer on top. Fridge is warm, and freezer keeps freezing up on sides and bottom. I cleaned it all out, defrosted it, and it still freezes up and fridge still won't get...

Is this a self defrost model? Frost inside the freezer could be an air leak around the door gasket. Remove the back panel in the freezer and completely defrost the coils. Is the fan running in the freezer. That will make the frig not be cool. With the door closed peek in the gasket to make sure the light is shutting off, this will warm a frig also.

Control board has gone bad....

What happens is the defrost is controlled electronically from a circuit board, when this goes bad, the freezer quits defrosting, and freezes the fans that circulate air through the fridge side of things.

To check this, unplug the entire fridge, leave the freezer open, wait for it to defrost a bit, if this causes the fridge to start cooling again when you plug it back in, then its the defrost. You should also see ice crystals on the back of the freezer just under the icemaker.

Warm Fridge Section

sounds like the evaporator fan in the freezer is not moving the air. also there is an air damper door at the top center of the fridge that controls air flow from the freezer to the fridge. check those two components and you will find your problem.
