Venting issues cause 99.9% of long dry times (and also cause water in dryer).

Clean venting, or replace if it's plastic or aluminum foil.

If its hot,the element is probably ok,seeing how old it is ,and im assuming its worked well for you,the first thing i would do is un plug it pull it out from its spot and clean it ,check vent for lint buildup, remove back of dryer, fan and dryer lint holder areas get built up with lint paper and whater ,was left in your pockets, make sure the are clean, element then can also be tested with continuity setting on volt meter, most of the time you can see the damage in the element without a meter,if you have never taken a dryer apart before,i reccomend finding a friend with some mechanical skills to help,be carefull ,always unplug it first, hope this helps, aloha from maui todd0708

Initial reaction is yes, probably.

Second guess would be the switch.

The switch tells the dryer what to do, and if the heating element is good, it will do it.

Test the switch quickly first, and if it checks out, look at the element.

You most likely have a bad heating element.

Barrel of dryer turns but no heat

Your heating element needs to be replaced, or the 240 breaker in your breaker box has tripped. I was a maytag technician for several years...So, check your breaker box for any tripped breakers or the heating element in the dryer needs to be replaced, or the t.stat for the element has blown.

yes but make sure to unplug before you start but make sure lint is not the cause ck dryer hose cabinet motor blower wheel and discharge tube is lint free the element doesnt sound like the problem they just go inop may be it is limit switch short cycling but also make sure element housing is clear of lint

Whirlpool duet electric dryer taking too long to dry

A1 Pull the dryer out away from the wall. Unhook the vent from the dryer completely. Do not put anything over the dryer exhaust on the back of the dryer. Do a normal load with the vent unhooked. If it dries better or ok like this then the problem is in the dryer venting. Like a blocked vent pipe or a smashed or restricted vent hose.
A2 - If the vent  doesn't make a difference, then check the blower wheel for excessive lint build up, check that there isn't anything stuck to the air intake baffle inside the drum, (i.e. the screen on the back wall of the dryer when looking into the drum). Check the lint filter chute for blockage. Check that the heating element isn't shorted to ground. Check the exhaust temperature of the dryer. A meat or pocket  thermometer can be used for this. It should cycle between 120 degrees and 170 degrees. Check that the drum seals to make sure the are not worn out.

Relatively new dryer takes several cycles to dry normal loads

Check the lint trap all the way down to vent, then make sure that the vent is not crushed in anyway. Depending on the way the person cleaned it they could have actually caused more of a clog

Dryer does not get hot enough to dry clothes Roper REX4634KQ1 Electric Dryer

Most common cause of this is a clogged venting going to the outside to test this remove the vent from the back of the dryer and run a load if it drys ok them you know you have a venting issue and will need to be cleaned out if not plz repost and we can look deeper into it
