Based on the limited information you provided, you could likely have a corrupt operating system, or possibly a hard drive issue. Assuming it's an operating system issue, you might be able to bring the system back by using the supplied restore CD or your operating system CD. Using the CD's, if you have an option to repair (instead of completely overwriting) the operating system without loosing your personal data. Otherwise, you may have to wipe and reinstall the operating system and drivers, which would likely mean that all of your personal data will be wiped in the process.

If you give me more detailed information about your system, it would help me isolate the issue and maybe find a better resolve for you. I would need to know the following:

1) Are you aware of any symptoms that might have lead up to this issue?
2) What operating system do you have?
3) Where there any changes made to the system before this issue occurred, such as hardware or software changes?

Monitor works only in safe mode

graphics problem on your desktop is malfuctioning, after the computer turns on it uses all the drivers for your monitor which if broken or wrongs drivers will cause the display to be blank,
when using it in safemode it only loads the basics. try un installing the drivers for your graphics card in safemode, "with command prompts" and let windows download the correct one

Please my laptop is tells me application not found when i click on any of the applications

This sounds like a trojan malware type of infection where it hijacks the .exe files. Boot into safe mode by going to start>turn off computer and selecting reboot or restart.

when it goes down, start tapping F8 and you will come to a black menu screen. select Safe Mode With Networking which will allow full internet access and stop the malware infection from loading.

Once in safe mode, get on the internet and go to and download the free version. save it to your desktop and when downloaded, install it and follow the prompts to update it and do a full system scan. it will select all items for removal automatically and then hit the button to remove selected. when done it will prompt you to reboot.

boot into normal windows and test your applications. should be back to normal.

I have a gateway laptop and when I start it up, it will show the windows start up screen and then the screen goes black. How do I fix this?

Something to try:

Power Off computer. Turn it back ON then when you see gateway logo start tapping on the F8 key and it will take you to Windows Advanced Options. Select safemode and press enter. If it ask you to select a Operating System just press enter. You will see white text. Once you get to the icons on your desktop It will state that it is running in safemode click on yes, then go to
Start Menu then All programs then Accessories then System tools then System Restore. Select to restore to an earlier date then in the calendar select a bolded date at least a week ago. Follow the prompts and your system will restart. This does not hurt to try. Hope that helps.

What is wrong with my computer when I restart it & when it gets to the screen where the microsoft words come up w/ the green progress bar showing. Then the screen stays black & all you see is the...

Seems to be your video driver (maybe). restart the computer when you see Dell logo start tapping on F8 key it will take you to advanced windows options. Select Safemode and press enter. login like you normally would . once you are on your desktop go to Start>all programs> accessories>system tools > system restore. Select the lastes bolded date and contunie to follow the prompts and your system should restart. You system will restart and it will state the system restore has completed. If not repeat the process by going into safemode with networking. once the desktop is up click on internet explorer and go to click on Drivers and downloads and search by service tag. down load the video driver in the video category.
hope that helps
