The solenoid only controls fuel from the carburetor bowl to the main jet.
If you arent getting fuel to the carb bowl your problem may lie upstream of the solenoid.

For "supply issues" check fuel line, inline-filter, shut-off valve (if equipped) and in-tank screen (if equipped).

If bowl is getting adequate supply, the solenoid might be suspect. Remove and clean with carb-cleaner spray as needed.

Hope this helps.

Has anyone ever had a problem with the fuel solenoid on the carburetor? Same B & S 20 hp v-twin. If it were malfunctioning could it cause a backfire through the carb?

A bad solenoid on the carb should not cause this. It sounds more like to me the motor is out of time due to a sheered flywheel key. Appears as though the motor is firing while the intake valve is open which is why you are getting a so called backfire through the carb. I hope this has been helpful.

I found Gasoline inside My Craftsman riding mower engine, this is the third time I have to drain it and replace it with new oil, somehow gasoline is flowing inside and I have no idea where it is coming...

There is a fuel shut off solenoid on the bottom of the carb and it is most likely stuck open. The gravity flow of the fuel causes it to force through the carb, through the intake valve, through the cylinder and then into the oil sump.

Where is the sparkle plugs in a yark works riding lawn mower the mower won't start

It should be under a rubber boot between the OHV cover and the muffler.

Drain your carb and check for water in the fuel too.

Good luck and be careful!

Have troy bilt riding lawn mower engine is not getting gas through carb. what is the solenoid thats attached to the carb?

That is the fuel solenoid that allows gas to get into the carburetor when it starts up. The fuel solenoid opens up when the key is turned on to allow fuel into the main jet of the carburetor.
go to, you should be able to find an Illustrated parts list on the engine.
