I need at times to make a call become private. I don't know and can't find how to temp disable BT so I can talk on the phone (with others in the car being left out of the converstion) and then rejoin everyone again.

I suspect this model is equipped with BT feature. BT car kit is affordable now. Attached link is for one that plugs into the radio's aux input.
this could be complicated so bear with me. I have 2 phones linked to my car stereo and it took about 30 seconds. follow these steps but bear in mind each device is different but the basics are exactly the same.
1- you have to make sure both devices definitely have BT. if your phone has not got BT you will not be able to use the function.
2- you have to make your phone of stereo 'discoverable' so that it is 'visible' and other BT devices can find it.
3- If you stereo or phone has a 'look or scan for device' option, select it and turn on.
4- your phone, stereo or both will ask if you want to pair the devices, select 'Yes' you may need to enter an authorization code.
5- the code is normally 0000 or 1234
hope this helps, if not it must be in the instruction manual somewhere.
As an owner of the 7900 i'm assuming your talking about Error-80
If this is the one, turn the ignition on, using a pencil or similar item press the button just to the left of the eject button. this will completely reset the internal flash memory. Once it turns back on hold the dial in until you get into a setup screen. rotate the dial counterclockwise to "BT Memory" press the dial to the right and it should come up with "reset?" now press the dial. 99% of the time it will say error but it still completes. Now turn the stereo back on and press the phone button. pair your phone to the stereo and viola you're all set.
Niether .... do you know what you have in hand? Both those extras costed someone some cash ... OK here it is: the CDA-9884 has a dedicated input for ipod (a KCE-422i cable is needed and comes with the new CDA-9884 in the box) ... The HD radio unit allows you to recieve new HD radio signals (digital radio, and stations that have it in your area may also have extra music streams like HD TV does). The bt-400 is a bluetooth adapter to use bluetooth enabled devices with such as a cell phone. If your ipod has bluetooth you could used the bt adapter but I suggest the KCE-422i cable instead, and check out the HD radio too, it's pretty cool.
I have the reverse problem. Callers can hardly hear me.
I saw a setting in the headunit that allows you to specify where the audio plays for incoming calls. You can choose the Left Front Speaker, the Right Front Speaker or Both. Check the manual and make sure its set to both.
