When you plug in the AC adapter do you see any indication that the battery is charging? Usually there's an LED that illuminates to indicate this.

If you do not see any indication of the battery charging, then gently wiggle the plug that inserts into the laptop. These laptops have a common problem where the power connector comes loose from the system board. If this has happened additional damage can occur because a failing connection can generate lots of heat and damage the system board further.

There are some companies that will repair this problem for you, or if you're interested you can try it yourself.

In any event, let me know what you find. If it looks like this is the problem and you're interested in fixing it yourself I can give you some more information to help.

If the power connector is not the problem and you get no response whatsoever then I would guess the power switch might be broken (unlikely) or there's been a hardware failure of some other kind on the system board.

This answer seems to be too long to post in one shot. I'm breaking it up...

The first thing you'll need is the service manual. Here's a link where you can view service manual in PDF format. You should save this file or print it out. You do not want to lose this before you get everything back together:

    http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c00...

Disassembling a laptop can be a bit intimidating. I always use a sheet of paper and carefully place all the small screws on the paper and write myself a note beneath them to remind me where each came from. You will need to take the laptop completely apart and remove the system board. The manual will tell you exactly how to do this and then how to reassemble.

Once you've got the system board out you'll be able to see the power connector and the circuit board underneath. If it's badly damaged you may want to think about professional repair. If it does not look burnt then you can probably replace the connector yourself. You'll need a soldering iron, solder wick, and solder. If you've never done this kind of work before You should do some reading on the web about how to remove and replace electrical components with a soldring iron. You'll find plenty of instructions if you just use Google and search on solder.

If you want to replace the jack you'll need to order a new one. Here's a website that sells replacements:

    2nd half of answer...

I did not see a replacement for the V2000, but I did see one for the HP DV1000 which has the same service manual as your computer. Hopefully they use the same connector. If not you can call the company listed above and they can help you figure out which jack to use.

The reason I say "if you want to replace the jack" is because I've repaired a number of these and I did not replace the jack. Instead, I soldered wires directly to the system board and soldered them to a female connector I purchased at Radio Shack or a local electronics store. I then used zip ties to fasten the new connector to the back of the laptop. I did this because the system board on these computers had been badly damaged by the heat and I don't have the ability to repair the boards themselves. This solution is not as pretty as replacing the original connector, but it takes all the strain off the motherboard and those folks will never have this problem again. If you replace the jack and you have the computer long enough you will have this problem again unless you are very careful to never put any stress on the power connector.

    Here's one last link:

    http://www.repairpowerjack.com

This company will repair you computer for $125. If this job seems like to much for you to bite off you might consider sending the computer to some one like this for repair.

    Good luck.

No power or computer does not turn on. If you have a power strip (surge protector) or switch used to turn everything on at once.

Good Luck, Please dont for get to Vote/Thank you.

You say the battery is charging? Have you tried another Cord/Charger with the EXACT same power specs? Has the AC jack been damaged due to pulling on the cord while plugged in? Any damage? Drop? Do you leave the Laptop plugged in while not in use?

Laptop has power but won't boot up

There are three possible reasons why it's acting like that.

1. Defective AC Adapter or Power cord
2. Defective Motherboard
3. Defective Battery

First off, you need to isolate the part which causing the issue. Please follow the following steps:

1. Remove the battery and use the power cord alone in powering up your computer. If it goes well, then you need to replace the battery. If no go, then try using a different known good outlet.

2. Check the acer power adapter (the box) if there's a light lit. If it's green, then it's should be working fine. If it's amber or nothing at all, then there's a problem with it. You might need to replace that.

3. If the AC adapter looks good, then try to wiggle the cord so that you can check if the cord is properly connected to the computer. Usually, cords get loose and it causes problems. If it has this kind of problem, then you need to get a technician to check that for you because you might need to buy a new motherboard for that.

Please do the above simple steps, and let me know if anything happens. I hope this can solve the issue.

The AC jack may be damaged due to pulling on the cord. Make sure the other cord/charger/transformer is the EXACT same power spec before plugging in, it may fry the laptops internal PSU.

My laptop won't turn on. I tried taking out the battery, a different battery, a differnet power cord. It won't turn on. Is there a way to reset it?

Are there any lights or indications on the battery itself that might tell you if the battery is good? I had a laptop with a similar problem and it turned out to be both a bad battery and a bad "power brick". replacing both fixed my issues. Also, try holding the power cable at the point where it connects to the laptop and push to the left or right. A friend's laptop would only start if you held the power cable to the left. Otherwise, it sounds like a mother board issue. Sorry.

Philips model 37PF7320A won't turn on

The power supply regulator section is not working properly. It will be best to replace this board as card basis rather than trying to make it right. Philips have used some special numbered components there, which are very difficult to get from open electronic spare part market. Contact the nearest authorized service center for Philips to buy a new board.

Since you already tried another power cord (assuming that it was a working cord and for the exact same model). Then I would say your motherboard is dead.

I hadn't charged my Sony Vaio model PCG-61611L for a couple days. Then when I finally plugged it in to charge, it won't turn on. I even left it plugged in for a few days and still nothing. It has...

Try A Hard Reset

Remove the battery and charger/ac adapter/power cord from your Sony Vaio laptop, press and hold the power button for 20 seconds to discharge any residual current inside the laptop.

This clears your RAM and is like a hardware reset.

Replace the battery and charger/ac adapter/power cord
and turn your laptop on.

If that does't work try removing ram and reinstall. Sometime this works with these laptops.

Unfortunately it sounds like you have an issue with your motherboard. If you remove the battery and just try to power on the laptop using the AC adapter and it still won't power on then it's probably the motherboard. The power supply circuit (where the AC adapter plugs into) for the motherboard is integrated into the motherboard.
Sorry. If it's still under warranty Dell will replace the motherboard.
