Question about Microsoft Xbox 360 Console

2 Answers

Xbox 360 immediately goes to 2 red rings (on start-up)

Originally I was getting 2 red rings after about 10-15 minutes of play.

I looked online for fixes, opened it up..tried some of the more sensible fixes, such as the 8 penny trick, but it 2 red ringed immediately after that. I took off the heatsinks and remounted them, and it still 2 ringed.
Noticed that the heatsinks were a little loose, so I added some washers and now it is really tight against the GPU & CPU, but it still 2 red rings 1-2 seconds after start-up.

I used regular heatsink paste, not the silver expensive kinda (does this matter?)

I did clean both the Chips and the heatsink, but the chips were almost impossible to get shiny like new, there is even some indented logos on the chip, so I figured the paste would fill in all the gaps.

I noticed that the GPU(or the one under the bigger heatsink) has two chips, do they need silver paste between them to work, (i.e. sense each other)?

I don't really know what to do, because it technically isn't overheating, I figured with everything on correctly, it's pretty impossible for it to overheat in a second, and when it does 2 red ring, nothing is hot.

I know about board warp, and my next step is to look for weak solder points and resolder if neccessary. ( I read one of the possible problem areas in near the AC plug on the board)

So the heat sinks are almost perfectly remounted, all the thermal tape is back in place(the 4 band-aids on the bottom of the motherboard) and it is completely free of dust. My power bar light is green when I power it on, so I figure that is ok. I don't know what else to do, short of buy another.

The heatsinks are on super tight, It would be almost impossible to get them tighter without breaking the motherboard.
I know that's the obvious answer, and I'm telling you they are firmly in place, and even if they were slightly loose it wouldn't 2 red ring immediately on start-up.

Temp sensor might be bad or there might be a short between the board and the sensor.

After 15/30 minutes of playing the first light starts turning red then the xbox crashes how can i fix this

That means there is a hardware failure. If you are in warranty, contact xbox at 1-800-4my-xbox and get it sent in to be fixed. Or you can try and fix it yourself with the self help guides online (search red ring of death fix).

if you have one, two, or three rings, give the xbox a lot of time to cool down. If you have four, your xbox is fried.

3 rings of death turned to 2 rings. xbox 360 NEED SUGGESTIONS

you probably did something to where you messed up your xbox motherboard, making it (after less then a minute of power) get short circuited and power fails. i would recommend getting it repaired by microsoft if you have a warranty.

2 red rings playing for 40 min

2 Red rings is caused by the Xbox 360 overheating. This should not be happening after 40 minutes of play.
You can check your warranty status here.

My xbox controllers will not charge with the plug in kit. The light turns red, then either immediately green, or it starts to blink red-off-red-off.

I had the same problem. The Battery pack on mine was dead for a long time as i havent touched my Xbox 360 in a while. So
SOLUTION
Step 1. Plug the play and charge cord into the controller
Step 2. If Light turns green within a minute or so, Unplug the play and charge cord and go to Step 1 (Repeating this process until the light stays red on the play and charge cord (3-10 times))

Xbox 360 halo problems

my halo sometimes does the same thing when i start up the game but pressing a usually gets you through it, but if your xbox 360 overheats within minutes and is an older xbox 360 its usually a burnt out fan or just full of dust, if its old then ur warranty might already be out and if it is just open up the xbox and use an air compressor or anything else to get all the dust out of the xbox. in my case everything was just caked with dust. anyways... good luck

Here is a linl to MS website. It doesn't look very good. Make sure the light on your power supply is green. Also, unplug the unit from the wall, wait a minute or 2 and plug back in and see if that helps.
