Question about E-Machines W3052 PC Desktop
Dear Mam/Sir, I need to Back-Up some DATA off of my E-Machine W3052 Desktop Computer.I have been told an 8 MB USB Flashdrive would be all I would need.First what would my Computer have to have on it to Operate a USB Flashdrive (Hardware and Software) ? I am running Windows XP Home SP 3 and maybe a little bit of SP2.Second,What is a good brand of USB Flashdrive 8MB for the Costs and are any Manuals available to help me learn to use it ? Thanks,Dennis
USB drives are supported natively by Windows XP so the drive will work if you can boot to windows. As far as brands go, generally not a lot of difference. Imation, Kingston, PNY all make them, most people choose by price. here are some examples:
once the drive is connected, it should be detected automatically and assigned the 1st available drive letter. (Usually E: or F:) then just copy the files to that drive like you would any other drive.

All you have to do is plug in the usb flash drive to your usb port, no special drivers needed, there are lots of site that offers a flash drive. why not get an external HDD? it would be better so that if the same problem happened agaian you can have a back-up copy of your files on an external HDD

You may need to uninstall your current usb's and let Windows redetect them.
click on START, SETTINGS, CONTROL PANEL, SYSTEM. Click on tab HARDWARE, click on DEVICE MANAGER. Scroll down to UNIVERSAL SERIAL BUS CONTROLLER. Delete everything there. Click on ACTION, SCAN FOR HARDWARE CHANGES. It should redetect and you should be good.

Reformatting your Windows computer is usually the absolute last resort and is often done unnecessarily. Before you go through the process of doing a reformat of your hard drive please take a few moments to read through the rest of our website. If you are reformatting to fix problems with your Windows computer it's possible that by using some of the tips on our site, or by downloading or purchasing some of the tools or products that we link to, you might be able to avoid the need to reformat your computer. Because doing a complete reformat of your computer will erase the contents of the hard drive and require you to reinstall all software, reformatting is usually a last resort.
Some Computer Manufacturers Make Reformatting EasyMany name-brand PC manufacturers include a restore-disk which makes it easy to reformat your PC and return it to the state it was in on the day you purchased it. Some manufactures supply only a standard Microsoft Windows CD, and some (usually lower-end PC manufacturers) supply neither! If your PC did not come with a restore or reformatting CD, then you will need to take extra steps to format your hard drive and get Windows re-installed.
Back Up Your Files Before You Reformat Your Windows PC!Because the reformat or restore process erases everything on your computer, it is critical to have a backup of any important files on your computer. You will also need your original software install disks to reinstall any software you have purchased.
