Re: Returning router

First, as a previous warranty tech that did a lot of work with HSN computer products, I do not give them very high grades for ease of use, or top notch products..... JMHO...

The website sure does not give you much:

Q. Is there any merchandise that is not returnable? A. Non-returnable merchandise would be 80% -90% off clearance and or Final Sale merchandise and "tax exempt" purchases. Merchandise purchased from the HSN, ON-Air show or cannot be returned at the HSN Outlet Stores. Here are the return instructions (note the telepone number): Just follow these return instructions:

  1. Re-pack the item in the original manufacturer’s packaging and shipping box. Please be sure to include all parts.
  2. Fill out the bottom portion of your packing slip and enclose it with your return. Please specify whether you would like merchandise credit (KA$H) or reimbursement to your original payment method.
  3. Use the pre-printed return label provided on the order summary and affix it OVER THE ORIGINAL SHIPPING LABEL. Please be sure to use the label from the packaging slip that corresponds to the item(s) you are returning to expedite processing. If there is no return address on the slip, please contact Customer Service at 1.800.933.2887 (8 am-1 am ET) for return information.
  4. Then, take your package to any United States Post Office or carrier of your choice and pay for the return shipping.

Try contacting the consumer affairs office or Office of fair trading for assistance.
You could sell the router on EBay but you may not get the full price that you paid for the router.

I have a Netgearr WGR614v8 and i dont know how to log onto it in linux, i know i can do it through a browser but im new at this. think you could help a newb? :\

First, you need to make sure that you are connected to the router via an ethernet cable. Next, you need to open the router configuration page using a web browser (I assume you have FireFox). In order to find out what address you need to type into the browser's address bar, you need to open Terminal and type "ifconfig" without the quotations. This will show you your IP address information. Note down the Gateway address and type that onto your browser. It is usually or Next it will ask for the username and password. Default log in information should be : Username: admin Password: password
Hope this helps!

Connected with limited access, Help!!! I've had some teething troubles with my wireless network but we got there in the end, the latest problem is this... I can connect to my network & have web access...

Let's see if this helps:
  1. Turn off everything. Computers, routers, modem and anything else printers etc.
  2. Turn on your Netgear Router. Let it cycle all the way up.
  3. Now turn on your router ONLY. Let it cycle up.
  4. Now turn on your modem and let it cycle.
  5. Now turn on everything else in any order you want.
Keep power to your router and modem on even when you turn computers off.
Use this procedure if you have a power outage, too.
It's all in the order-it allows your router to assign addresses to your computers .

I dont have the installation disk anymore. Is there an online installation. Buying another or ordering one is not an option. thank you

Try this ....

Switch on the router

Switch on a computer with wireless capability

Ensure the computer has received an IP address from the router (DHCP)

To do this start a DOS session and type ipconfig -a and make sure the PC has an address like 192.168.1.x

Fire up a broswer window, ignore any errors about pages not loading

Type in in the browser URL and hit return

This should give you the login page for the router. The username and password is usually "admin" and "netgear1" for NetGear routers, depending how new it is. If not try "admin" and "password".

Good luck!

I need the network key in order to set up my laptop remotely

Generally, with WiFi routers, the first time you set it up has to be wired. Once you have done that you will know the Wifi Key. Some do come pre configured so you could look for a small label on the bottom or back of the router.

In order to do this manually:

Connect you laptop to the router using an Ethernet cable. You can then look up the gateway IP address by clicking <Start> Run and typing "cmd" in the box and clicking OK. When you get the command prompt, type IPCONFIG and hit <Enter> which will give you a load of information. you need the IP Address of the Default Gateway. It will look something like

Enter this into your browser and it should take you to the router's login screen. You will need to check to documentation for the correct user-name and password

Hi. I got a MEGA105WR ADSL Router and SAMSUNG camera system SHR-5040 DVR. I need help setting my router for my DYNDNS account. So I can link remotely by software and webb browers.

These instructions will work on any windows computer version 2000 and up.

In order to open ports you need to gain access to your router's control panel. To do this we go to Start>Programs>Accessories>Command Prompt. From here type in: ipconfig
Press ENTER to execute the command. A list should be returned listing some IP Addresses. Look for the one associated with, "Default Gatewaty."

Here is a picture.

Afterward open your Internet Browser (Internet Explorer, Firefox, etc...) and type the IP Address associated with the default gateway into the address field of the browser. DO NOT add www. or .com. Afterward press ENTER or click GO as if you wanted to visit a website.

Here is a picture.

Once you're at the control panel you will probably be asked to log in. If you do not know your login details you can always try the default. To find these you can either search your router's user manual or head to the online search engines entering your router's manufacturer's name, the router's model #, and the words, "default password" into the same search request to bring up the default login credentials. For example:

Linksys WRT54G default password

Here is a picture.

If you still can't manage to log in to your router's control panel you will have to contact the technical support department of your router's manufacturer asking them for assistance in resetting the login user ID and password of the router.

Once you manage to log in to your router's control panel, locate areas hinting anything in port-forwarding. Such as:

Port Forwarding
Virtual Servers

You're trying to find a panel similar to the one depicted in this screenshot. Please note that the panel will probably not be alike. However in order to forward ports the router needs this information:

Ports to forward, on which protocol, and where to forward the ports.

Once you manage to find the appropriate screen for port-forwarding you will have to check with SAMSUNG to determine which ports need to be opened to allow remote access to your DVR.
