Question about Apex Digital Computers & Internet
My Apex DT250 converter will not switch from the standby to on mode. Using either the remote or the manual button on the front, the unit will emit a high pitch whine, but not switch to on.
Got the same problem the transformer indside the box is junk causing it to fail. PS. STAY AVAY FROM APEX

Open up the unit because the warranty is no longer valid i assume and check the capacitors on the power supply. i did this on mine and i found that one of the 470uF capacitors was popped you can probably fix it yourself for about 10 dollars. its cheaper than buying a new one and definitely cheaper than having it sent out to have it fixed.

@daniellouie1 had the right answer ___________________________________________
I opened the box and noticed the cap on circuit board at C8 position was bulging. The C8 cap was green and other three were black. Perhaps intended supply of flawed cap to just fail at the time of warranty expiration? One black cap at position C15 was bulging. Good that caps were bulging and had not burst. (Think of a carbonated can drink in the freezer after one hour - about to or already popped.) Have the four caps ready - not all may need replacing. Use good quality Phillips screwdriver & use firm steady force - 5 to 6 cover screws and two recessed screws hold the cover down. 4 circuit board screw. Be careful when removing ACpower and mini-plugs - easy to overlook release clips. Use low watt soldering pencil, not high watt gun.

The problem wasn't really Apex. There was a flood of cheap, bad capacitors at the right time and the DT250 boxes got stung. I had four boxes and all four eventually failed a 470u cap on the power board. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Capacitor_plague
