HP is pretty good about cataloging their products and all related drivers. Thing with this model laptop is there are many variations. You'll want to go to www.hp.com and click the support tab. Use the product search box and key in the part number as opposed to the model number. The part number is on the serial tag stampted to bottom of laptop. It will read p/n and a series of letters and numbers. Key this in to the search box. This should return a table with drivers and software for your specific laptop. Note, the IR may only work when certain software is loaded like Window Media Center or media players.

Remote responds very, very slowly

Remote needs to see the device it is connecting to, try moving the desktop so the remote can see the desktop. IF that doesn't work maybe a new set of batteries... Good luck.

How can I use a laptop as a monitor for HP Paviolion desktop

It will need some etra software to facilitate this though, unless you connect you two computers over a network (eg a LAN) and simply slave your laptop to the desktop's control (desktop 'takes over' the laptop - ms support sometimes do this over the internet when trying to solve problems - they see you your screen on theirs and the keyboard and mouse are remotely located, and you see the mouse pointer and typed characters just appear, controlled by the MS operative. This not the same thing as using your screen, because they are using your computer, not their own).
Back to the software. There are several programs you may have to buy some others may be free.

Hp550 computer not going to sleep mode properly

No matter which model of HP laptop you own, battery life is a big issue. Hibernation mode is designed to increase the battery life of your HP laptop by switching off the monitor, hard drive and other parts of the unit after they have been idle for a specific period of time. While hibernation mode works well most of the time, in some cases, your HP laptop may not wake from hibernation the way it should.

Docking Station Issues Many hibernation problems are caused not by the HP laptop itself but by the docking station to which it is attached. Some models of docking station interfere with the normal operation of the hibernation on the HP laptop. The easiest way to test this is to remove the laptop from the docking station and allow it to sit until hibernation begins. If hibernation mode works with the laptop undocked but not while docked, you know the problem lies with the docking station instead of the HP laptop. b> Remote Desktop Issues If you need to connect to your HP laptop from elsewhere, it is helpful to reset the power settings to the Always On mode before you leave your home or office. Many models of HP laptops do not wake properly from hibernation when users connect to them remotely using the remote desktop feature of Windows. When users connect with remote desktop, the program sends a signal to the remote computer that should wake it from hibernation and allow it to function normally. However, this process does not always work as intended with HP computers, so it helps to change the power settings to allow a seamless connection. Video Drivers Problems with HP laptop hibernation also can be caused by a corrupt or outdated video drive. HP laptops come with built-in video processors, and the drivers they use are installed during the initial setup of the unit. If there is a problem with that driver, HP releases an update, so if you see problems with hibernation, your first step should be to check for an updated video driver. b> External Keyboard and Mouse Sometimes the HP laptop does not respond properly and does not wake from hibernation when you use the built-in keyboard and touchpad mouse. The sensitivity of HP touchpads varies from model to model, and that sensitivity can be reduced over time. You can test for this problem by attaching an external keyboard and mouse to the laptop to determine whether that resolves the problem.

I have HP Officejet 6500 connected via USB to office desktop. I also need print from vista laptops on the same wireless network as the desktop. How do you do it ?

Hi, I just completed this same query this week.

to set up my remote network i followed promts from windows and then had to run my windows xp startup disc on my vista laptop.

After that was complete i had to install the hp printer setup cd onto my vista laptop and connect the hp printer to my router using the ethernet cable. I followed the prompts on the vista as the cd continued to install. then at the end of it all it showed i had correctly installed the printer via wireless and asked me to do a practice print which i did and all seems fine.

I can now print from my vista laptop and my windows xp desktop. I hope this helps

I have an HP G60-117US Notebook PC. Can you tell me how to connect it to my Sony HD TV so I can watch a movie.

Use an HDMI cord to connect the two together. On your Sony remote click the TV/Video button ( also called input button) slowly until you see your desktop screen appear on the Sony TV. Your desktop screen will probably be smaller then the TV screen and will be a duplcate to the computer desktop screen. That might not be acceptible to you. You will have to change the resolution to the recommended 720p or 1080p to fill up the TV screen. The pc will recognize the Sony monitor (TV) as a second monitor. You could change it from duplicate screen to seperate second screen.

Printing remotely from laptop -- can I?

I assume it's a Brother printer not your brother's printer right? I have an HP and it's a wireless printer which is accessible through my network, you have to install the printer driver and software on to the other laptop that is connected wirelessly to your network.
