SOURCE: Remote
I think the Direct TV remote has a scan feature where it'll go through all the TV codes 1 at a time. Then if you see the TV go off, you stop the scan cycle and store it. Read the manual on how to do that. If it never turns off, then it's not compatible.

Try using the remote's "search" feature. If that doesn't work then it's probably not compatible.
Hope that helps...

SOURCE: IR remote-Bizare Problem
Okay I am a bit confused as to the exact problem you are having but I will give you multiple avenues to resolve thios issue.
Assuming that the issue exists with TV1's remote:
Some IR remotes experience interference with other peripherals at times. The easiest way to resolve this is to get an 8.0 remote that is IR/UHF capable.Using the front panel buttons or the old remote place the receiver into UHF Pro mode by pressing menu-6-1-6 . You should be on UHF Pro setup: move the highlight to the left and go to the enable selection, press select and move the highlight back to the right to done.exit out of all screens. Then press the menu button twice to get to the system info screen. Here we will be canging the remote address of the new 8.o remote to the number for the primary remote address. This number is near the bottom of the screen. On the 8.0 press the small SAT button in the upper left hand of the remote and hold until all light on the top light up, enter the number on the screen for the primary remote using the keypad on the 8.0, press the pound sign, the SATbutton should flashh three times, then press the record button. Now you should be able to use the new remote normally. You will need to program the remote to the TV if you were able to control volume and turn TV on and off before. Since this is a different model remote it may or may not be compatible with the TV. If you need assistance with programming the remote to the TV itself just post another request for assistance and one of Fix Ya's Expert will hook you up. You can also find the solution in the archives of previous solutions as that issue is commonly addressed in this forum.
If the issue lies with the TV2 remote I would suggest moving the antenna off the back of the receiver into the room TV 2 is located. This can be accomplished by following the following diagram. If you still need assistance please let me know. I hope this solves your issue.
