T104r timer manual switch not working, clock runs fine, on and off trippers work

The contacts inside the time clock have most likely warn out. If it is coming on randomly it is not making good contact and will create arcing, which is dangerous. Call an electrician, they may be able to replace just the internals.

How connect a new intermatic t104r 120v

T104 timer is 240Volts.
Not 120Volt
You can convert timer into 120V by changing clock motor from WG1573 to WG1570. This action will convert the T104 into T103.

The T104 timer can be wired many different ways:
Copy following link for illustrations showing both T104 and T103 wiring

Add a comment with specifically what you are connecting to timer, and I will comment back with more detail as needed.

An electrician installed a new Tork 1103 24 hr timer for the pool pump. You can only manually turn it on and off. When trying to set the time, the dial is loose and does not stay in position and does not...

I think you have 120Volt pool pump.
Add a comment if this is incorrect since wiring information is based on this assumption.

(1) Wiring problem:
Evidence shows timer is wired in reverse (dial only rotates when pump is ON, and dial stops rotating when pool pump is OFF)
Electrician reversed the wires, but wires need to be tested.
Hot wire from circuit breaker always connects to L
Neutral wire from breaker box connects to unmarked terminal.
This will give clock motor continuous power.
Black wire going to Load (pump) connects to X
White wire going to Load connects to unmarked terminal along with Neutral wire.

Tork 1103 is SPDT timer with 3 watt 120volt clock motor that can control multiple loads and voltages, and can be wired many different ways.

(2) Loose dial. The dial should only rotate counterclockwise when moved with hand. The fact that trippers work when rotated by hand says dial is probably not problem. If timer is used, and trippers skip over and do not turn on Load (pump) then order P47 replacement trippers.

Timer wheel seems to slip. Won't hold time

You posted under Intermatic T104 timer.
If you have different timer, information below may not fit your timer.
Add a comment with correct timer brand and model number.

1) Click manual override on-off to see if Load turns ON, and that override snaps crisp and clean and is not sluggish or hard to move.
If override is not functioning well, then timer is bad. Buy new timer.
2) If dial is rotating, note current time, and watch if dial is keeping correct time over full day.
If dial is running slow, then buy T100 series 240Volt clock motor for T104 timer.
3) If dial is keeping good time, then tripper might be worn and need replacement

Will not shut off.

Ok is that the correct model number and voltage? Do you have it connected to 208-277 volts? (230V at home) Is the dial turning? Do you have both on and off trippers installed on the dial (they are not the same). If all that is true be sure the two timer motor wires are on the same incomine L1 and L2 terminals so it will run

Intermatic model T1O4R stopped working. time dial does not move

Can you turn the load ON and OFF with the manual switch? If not, the circuit breaker supplying the timer has probably tripped. Turn the breaker OFF, then back ON. Sometimes a breaker will trip, but it looks like it's still ON.
If you are getting 240 volts at the timer from the breaker, and if you can also manually turn the clock dial, then the timer motor is bad.

Our intermatic pool pump timer is brand new and is running backward. we bought a second timer and it is also running backward. We had an electrician come out and he can't figure it out either.

You need to check the line voltage being supplied to the timer. It is possible that you have a reversed neutral and common (hot) line providing power to the timer. It is also possible to have another reverse situation with the way the timer is hooked up to the device it is controlling.

Timer motors should only operate in one direction, but if mis-wired, they can operate backwards.

I would need more information about the exact installation you have in order to provide a more thorough diagnois and solution. Info such as is this a 220V-AC installation; is the timer hooked to more than one (1) device (pump, etc.) ; Is there a GFCI breaker on this circuit (there should be!) ; Is this a new installation or a refurbished pool with a new pump & timer?

Please use the "comment" button to supply me with the info requested so I can better address your issue.
