This is an easy repair if you've ever soldered and would not be too costly for a repair shop to do it for you. The problem is a bad Vertical Output IC (usually mounted on an aluminum heat sink with the part on it labeled LA78?? ) and 1 or 2 bad capacitors. Some times you can even fix the problem by re-soldering the contacts of the IC- To find the IC follow the 4 wires that come from the Yoke (which is a contained coil of wires slipped over the neck of the picture tube(s)) back to the board. 2 of the wires go to the horizontal o/p and 2 to the Vertical o/p the thinner gauge wires are for the vertical.

I have a Philips TV model: 27pt9015d. at the top of the screen several horizontal lines have appeared. it looks like the top inch is being cut off and then flipped back. that is - when credits are...

sounds like the vertical adjustment has spanned beyond the screen, causing it to jump up and then upside down. after the cover is removed look for vertical adjustment and with a non-conductive screwdriver, adjust it a little bit either way to see if it fixes it, if it doesn't fix it, then look again for the right one.

It's a Sony 32 inch flat screen led tv. Has line going across screen about 4 inches from top and faded verticals lines across tv. Anyway to fix that

one of the circuit board needs repairing replacing. I wouldn't recommend trying it yourself even though it wont be too difficult but without electronics knowledge you could end up getting the wrong parts and wasting good money. Parts aren't cheap so get a quote from a repair guy and prepare to replace the TV if it's dear

Try re-seating your upper and lower buffer board connectors. These boards run the length of the set on top and bottom. Since your line is from the top going down I would check that one. The connector will be close to where the line is showing up on the screen.

it depends, sometimes this problem is caused by a capacitor around the crt socket or around the flyback and horizontal out.
or sometimes the signal reciever section..

1 inch lines on top and bottom of screen

Is the picture overall too small by 1 in. on top and bottom? Or is it cut off by the lines?

If it's too small, look for an adjustment labeled Vertical Height. This may only be accessible internally, it's normally a service adjustment, not a user adjustment.

Your problem is a vertical deflection issue, either an adjustment or the vertical circuit requires repair by a technician. In the latter case, electrolytic capacitors are a likely cause.

Sounds like there is a problem in the convergence circuit. There should be an on board cross hatch and controls to adjust the lines to a white line. If these control wont adjust then the power ICs in the convergence circuit are most likly bad. if you know how to solder and know how to replace electronic parts then get a service manual find the part #s and order the parts . If you dont know how I can teach you here sorry. But I will tell you that a repair like this will run about 300 to 400 bucks to repair. Good Luck
