Benq PE5120 the buttons on the projector are not responding

Thank you for your response. It all started with the timer needing to be reset, our bulb says it has 3000 hours and currently the timer has 3003 hours so after turning the unit on (on the projector) it warms up, the screen starts. According to the manual, you are suppose to press the exit button for 5 seconds then press the auto button. At this point none of the buttons on the projector work. Even to turn the power off, I have to unplug the machine.

    Any ideas???

    Thanks,

    Karen

Benq PE5120 projector, the lamp was changed, the timer was not, the timer says it has a life of 3000 hours but it is currently at 3003 which is why it shuts down. I need to reset the timer, unfortunately I am not able to use the funtion buttons to do this. I can turn the unit on with the power button but after a couple of minutes it shuts down automatically. If I try to press the power button to shut it down -it won't work it is frozen. I have to unplug the projector in order to turn it off. What do I need to reset the machine? the timer?
    Please help,
    Thank you

Thank you for your thoughts, I have had the lamp warning come up on the screen. I have checked the buttons, they seem to be fine-the button does allow me to power up the machine -just not power off after the i comes up with the lamp warning.

I tried starting the machine without the data cord, still nothing changed.

Do you have any other suggestions?

    Thanks,

    Karen

    Thanks,

    Karen

Possible reasons are:
1) There is no power from the power
cable.
=> Plug the power cord into the AC inlet on
the rear of the projector, and plug the
power cord into the power outlet. If the
power outlet has a switch, make sure that
it is switched on.

2) Attempting to turn the projector on
again during the cooling process.
=> Wait until the cooling down process has
completed.

3) The lamp cover is not securely
attached.
=> Correctly attach cover

Either the control panel electronical unit is faulty or the ribbon cable that connects it to the main base unit. You can test any capacitors with an ohmmeter.

You can try disconnecting the power cable for ten minutes. This will reset the projector to factory settings. If that does not work, then the projector is faulty, and it is not just a matter of lamp replacement, or you would get the lamp warning. In that case the projector must be tested by a technician to find and fix the fault.
Also ensure that no button is stuck, and start unit with no data cable attached.

Are the lights our completely?
It might be as simple as a fuse. Check all the likely fuses in your fuse box ore OK

Also check if there is an inline fuse anywhere along the power line.

If this is not the case are there any other symptoms you can tell us about?

Hope this helps.

My projector won't project anything. the computer recognizes the projector, but the projector does not recognize the computer. also when i turn on the projector the benq logo doesn't show.

Disconnect all inputs to the BENQ and power on. Do the lights come on as per normal operation. Does the lamp come on when the power button is pressed. Does anything show when the menu is selected.

Lamp died and remote does not work

I don't think the problems are related. The bulb shouldn't have failed as it is rated at 2000 hours. As for testing the ballast I don't believe that a conventional meter would do it. You would need a lamp testing device. For more go to http://www.myprojectorlamps.com/testing.html Since projector lamps or ballasts are not cheap you may want to have a a/v repair shop check your projector, because of the early bulb failure.

Replacing the lamp

We contacted BenQ's technical service people from the toll free number on their website. They had us do the same thing the manual said to do and of course the lamp hours would not reset. We had to send the projector to them and they responded that our mother board went and that it needs to be replaced. They've quoted us around $180. What happened to us was that we didn't change the bulb when the warnings came up on the screen. It isn't explained anywhere that if you wait til you get to 3000 hrs without changing the bulb that you could screw up your machine, but it's kind of looking that way. If I were you guys, I would make that call to their tech support and see what they tell you.

Benq PE8700 - Won't Power Up

Hi there

Trust me that the Mainboard needs replacement.

I am very familiar with the PE8700's as I am a ASP Technician for BenQ.

Visit www.BenQ.com and look for the link to your country - you should be able to allocate a Approved Service Provider.

Must warn you that the Mainboards on these models are quite expensive.
