Question about Electrical Supplies

Manual needed for Dayton generator model 3w954. The problem is it does not produce power. For years if I did not crank it approximatley every 3 weeks; tarnish would form on the brushes and it did not produce power. Now I can't get it to work, even after cleaning the brushes. I have ohm tested it every thing has checked out. The only thing that might be a problem is on that on the voltage regulator; it has lights-- none of wich are lit.

Try to Excite the generator.. TAke a 12 volt starting battery attach a wire lead to each post of the battery and plug the other ends of those leads into the 120v volt out receptacles of The generator while it is running FOR ONLY A SECOND OR TWO.. tHIS WILL NORMALLY EXCITE A GENERATOR THAT HAS LOST THE CAPABILITY TO MAKE IT OWN ELECTRICITY. Disconnect the 12v leads quickly so as not to over charge the battery. GOOD LUCK.

I'm Looking for a Manual for a Dayton Generator Model 4LM41A

Could be it's in the exercise mode. And when the exercise period ends it's shutting down.
Generac might have made this unit for Dayton.

When we purchased our home in '04, it had a Dayton generator in the basement, model no. 3W056A, serial no. 55658 F83. It runs on natural gas, or so I've been told: It has never run since...

Let me make sure I read your post corerectly ... You have a Natural Gas operated generator hooked up in your basement? That's a train wreck waiting to happen! How is the exhaust vented out and how air tight is your basement? What keeps the carbon monoxide from reaching the rest of the house, when it's in operation?

Generators are a great back up. I have a 15 kw, that carries most of the house, plus 3 pumps during a power outage (Due to severe electrical storms, recently) we have had 2 power outages in 5 days. However, the National Building Code says "NO" to any type of generator being operated inside a residence or building of any type.

Without trying to sound critical, you need to rethink your plans of getting your generator running again. At least in your basement. Have it moved outside first and check with your local officials regarding clearances to any openings in the house. Or as you said "Just scrap it."

I sincerely hope this helps you make the right decision. Thanks for choosing FixYa.

Did drynot get a response on his march 30, 2011 question about the dayton 4lm39b 10k generator manual? i need one.

You can get it through Grainger.com. I would try e-mail first as if you call they will ask you for an account number. All Dayton generators are Generac units rebranded for Grainger. Grainger no longer offers the standby home product line last I checked. I read on another post that Grainger e-mailed him back.
