Question about Tomtom ONE 3rd Edition GPS

Magellon "lost it's mind"

I was in the middle of updating the maps on my Magellon Maestro 3100 when it was unplugged when my daughter triped over the USB line. Since then I can't get it to boot up or be recognized by my computer. What can I do to restore my poor GPS?

I purchased a Magellan Maestro 3100 GPS 4 years ago and I want to upgrade it. I also have a USB connector cable to download the updates but I don't know the proper procedures. Can you direct me to a...

hi, any and all updates for your 3100 can be found HERE ...if you decide to get the 2.18 firmware (which i recommend) because it adds Alaska, PR and Hawaii maps to your 3100 and fixes some major bugs, but beware, the firmware update for the 3100 is very large and can take up to 45 minutes to install and can NOT be interrupted, if it is, it will render the 3100 inoperable, so follow the directions to the letter.

read the instructions carefully

keep in mind, if your gps dies while updating, it will be not be usable...if the power goes out to the computer in stalling the update, the unit will not be usable.

im not trying to scare you, but i buy these all the time where someone has tried to update their 3100 and either the battery died or they unplugged it before the update was finished ect ect.

its actually very easy but magellan doesn't give enough warnings as to what can go wrong if your gps dies or your computer restarts ect ect ect.

Magellan maestro 3100......will turn on, but then just stays on a warning screen?? Do i need sd card or anything?

make sure its charged good, then turn on your 3100. after it boots up, hold the power button for ten seconds, when it turns off, turn it back on.

that should work, but if it doesnt, hook your usb up to it and your computer and see if the computer can see your 3100. if it can, go HERE and download the 2.18 update and that should fix it.

NOTE: read the directions entirely and do not unplug the unit until the Update wizard instructs you to do so.

either plug it in to the wall charger or make sure the battery is fully charged.

unplugging or losing power while updating will render the unit inoperable!

be patient, this update takes about 30-45 minutes to install..its 1.76GB

if you need further help, let me know by replying to this post.

Magellan Maestro 3100 map does not load. All

try the reset, its the tiny hole on the side. turn the gps on then using a paper clip, insert it in the reset hole and let it reboot.

if that fails and if you have not downloaded and installed the latest update ( 2.18 ) go here and download it and follow the directions to the letter, do not lose your patients with this update, it is huge ( 1.76GB) and takes at least 20-45 minutes to install...do not uplug the device untill prompted to do so from the install manager.

2.18 update

Mine isnt telling me where to turn at all

make sure the gps in not muted. check the mute on and the sound turned up on the map screen and also check the sound in the options/system/ sound, if they are both ok and the try a hard reset 1st..turn the gps on then locate the little pin hole on the side, using a paper clip, push reset....if that fails, try the 2.18 update if you havent already. READ UPDATE INFO BEFORE UPDATING,VERY IMPORTANT

updates for any magellan can be found HERE
but read below first before getting the update

i cant stress enough that patients is a must here. this update is huge 1.75GB takes atleast 30 - 60 minutes depending on your system.

follow the instructions below whether you have updated your gps already or not!

There are few ways to solve this problem. i assume you installed the 2.18 update for the 3100 and assuming you tried the reset already, try and run the update again and follow the directions to the letter..make sure the battery is fully charged (i also keep mine plugged in if the update doesnt say not to) and do not try and run the update across a network. this update is huge 1.75GB and can take an hour or so depending on the computer..do not interrupt the update process. if you do not have the 2.18 update read me file, i can try and post it here, but its in PDF and dont think i can post that

if all else fails, magellan will fix or replace for free any of there gps that were rendered inoperable due to one of there updates.

either solution will work but magellans going to tell you to run the update again anyway before sending it back.

i gave you the 2 easyest ways to fix it,but
there are other ways to get it running again, but if your not comfortable copying and moving files...youll make it even worst then it is.

hope this helps.

Bin it - get a Tomtom.. my Roadamte 700 has had so many problems and Magellan support just don't care/respond.

Am getting a Tomtom 720T with maps and cameras preloaded - updates automatically each time you place it on its cradle attached to your PC/internet.
