Water Heater Timers Save Money

1 Answer

Can a tork timer 1101 be used to control a 240 volt pool pump motor by controlling only 1 lead of the motor thus having the other lead hot all the time?

Yes: 240 volt can be controlled by turning off 1 hot leg of 240V circuit.
But the tork 101 clock motor still requires 120Volts (unless you buy a tork 240volt 201 clock motor to replace the 120volt 101)

Copy following links for handy resource and wiring diagram:
http://waterheatertimer.org/Tork-timers-and-manuals.html#1101

http://waterheatertimer.org/images/Tork-1101-wired-to-control-240.jpg

In the wiring diagram above, it shows white neutral wire running to Tork 1101 timer terminal 2. Bring this white neutral wire from any nearby 120volt outlet.
In event that you do not have this white neutral wire, you can connect ground wire to terminal 2 and that will give 120volts to the 101 clock motor.
Completing circuit to clock motor using ground wire is violation of national electric code for many reasons, however the tiny clock motor only draws 3 watts, and you will remember to bring a white neutral wire to this timer at later date so you can sleep better at night.

How can onr tell if timer on Tork 1101 is not working?

Is the dial rotating?

1) Copy following link for Tork 1101 product wiring and manuals:
http://waterheatertimer.org/Tork-timers-and-manuals.html#1101

2) Tork 1101 120Volt timer uses #101 clock motor.
If clock motor is working, then dial rotates around clockwise once each 24 hours... assuming timer is wired correctly.

3) Jan 2013, Add a comment and say what you are wiring.

15600 wiring problems

You probably have wrong voltage, or wrong wiring.
For example 15600 is 120Volt timer mechanism made by Tork and sold by GE.
This timer will not work with 240volts.
Other cause: Line and Load wires might be reversed.
Check circuit breaker.
Use non-contact voltage tester to see if power is live at timer.
Check wires at each terminal and make sure wire insulation is not under the screw plate.
Copy following link for wiring diagram:
http://waterheatertimer.org/GE-timers-and-manuals.html#15600

FYI, it is usually cheaper to buy T101 timer than GE15600, and then parts are more widely available and cheaper.
For example WG1570 clock motor for Intermatic T101 is $16.
Tork replacement motor is twice as much.
If you have 240Volt power, instead of 120Volt required by 15600, then you can buy Tork 201 clock motor and replace the 101 motor.
GE 15600 uses Tork p47 trippers.

13 years is good run for clock motor. Timer will last longer than clock motor.
Open following link to identify timer

Tork 1104 has 240Volt clock motor

Frontier lighting sells the >> 120V Tork motor: List price 40.33/ your price 45.49
So 120Volt replacement motor costs as much as new replacement timer

Intermatic replacement is240 volt T104 timer for $49.62 with 'free' shipping:
Also Intermatic trippers and clock motors are cheap and easily available

Crossover wiring from 1104 to T104.
Tork L goes to Intermatic 1
Tork 1 goes to Intermatic 3
Tork x goes to Intermatic 2
Tork 2 goes to Intermatic 4
Intermatic A is not used unless you have neutral wire or 277V

GE sells the same 240Volt Tork timer under GE model 15307 in indoor-outdoor enclosure available at Home Depot for $59.00. Year 2011, GE does not pay US income tax, but takes US profits and pays tax in foreign nations. No replacement clock motor is available, but crossover wiring is same.

Tork timer "time clock motor"kaput...someone set

You posted under Tork 8601 timer:
I don't think that clock motor is sold separately.
New timer costs 115 at Chapman:
http://shop.chapmanelectric.com/tork-8601-minute-120v-spdt-p-2361-l-en.html

120Volt Tork clock motor that fits some models is sold at frontier for $43:
http://www.frontierlighting.com/product.jsp?part=10431&process=search&show=&ID=,Photo.Cells...Time.Controls,Replacement.Motors

Usually the clock motor is held with 2 screws and then wires attach to screw terminals.
Look close at your screw terminals to see clock wires.
Normally timer mechanism snaps out of box and clock motor is on back of mechanism.

I have an Intermatic T103 DPST timer installed now (120v). The clock mechanism has failed. I bought Tork 1103 guts to replace it. The wiring is a bit different. Can u map for me which wires go to which...

T-103 has 120V clock motor with 5 terminals A 1 2 3 4
Tork 1101 has 120V clock motor with 4 terminals L 1 X 2

T103 is DPST and can control one-or-two 120Volt loads, or one-or-two 240Volt loads.
Tork 1101 is SPST can control one 120Volt load

Common ground between these timers one 120 Volt load
Changeover for one 120 Volt load:
White wires T103 terminal A go to Tork terminal X
Black wire T103 terminal 1 goes Tork terminals L and 1 (there is brass connector plate that connects L and 1 - if connector is missing, jumper between L and 1)
Black wire on T103 terminal 2 goes Tork terminal 2

If Load requirement is greater than T1101, Grainger sells T103 clock motor for $16

I have a w100 tork timer and i would like to know how to repair it and how to position the time pointer.

How to position time pointer
Rotate disk counterclockwise until current time lines up with silver pointer
Place trippers on outer edge of dial > trippers are reversible so one side of tripper in ON > flip tripper over and it is OFF.
Disk rotates with passing time, trippers click lever ON and OFF at set times

How to repair W100:
If dial is not rotating, then clock motor is bad >> W100 uses 120V clock > check markings on clock. Internet shows Tork T101M and T201M clock motors, but unclear if either clock matches W100 timer.
If dial rotates but trippers do not turn Load on-off then buy P-69 trippers
If manual override turns Loan on-off then electric circuit is working
If manual override does not operate Load, then check electric circuit or Load (light bulbs burned out)
If manual override is sluggish or stuck, and doesn't click crisp and clean, then timer is worn out or needs to be cleaned.

Product Manual:
http://waterheatertimer.org/Tork-timers-and-manuals.html#W-series
Link above shows manuals
Manual for W100 does not show specific clock-motor model

To buy parts or another timer
P-69 trippers available on web
Tork T101M and T201M clock motors available on web but unclear if they match W100

http://www.weisd.com/store2/tork/torktimer1.php
Page above sell W-series time dial part #70159 for 72$.
Page does not include photo, so unclear if dial includes clock-motor, or if voltage is 120V
Tork accessories pdf shows part #70159 as dial for W, with no other information

Same seller shows new W100 sells for $148.

Replace Tork with Intermatic, buy T7401B
Website sells T7401B for $114
T7401B is 120V timer and has 120V clock motor

Manual for T7401B
