Question about Whirlpool 25.6 cu. ft. Side-by-Side Refrigerator with In-Door-Ice Dispensing System

1 Answer

Inlet water receiver box freezes solid, so no water can enter the cube tray.

Problem has been solved. I picked up some tips from other comments that were previously posted. The problem was a supply valve that did not shut off completely. Water slowly trickled into the receiver box allowing the water to freeze as it trickled. Both the supply tube and the receiver box froze solid. A new valve did the trick.

I assume you're talking about the final tube just before the water reaches the ice mold. When the water inlet valve has a leak the water will slowly reach the tube and freeze when it reaches the cold freezer air. It will continue to build up till it completely blocks the tube. You need to replace the water inlet valve. It's on the back of the freezer where the water supply attaches to the freezer. It's probably a dual valve with the ice maker and water dispenser valve. You may need to remove part of the cardboard backing on the freezer to get to it.

My ice maker in my side by side refrig/freezer leaks water so that a solid block of ice is formed in the tray maker. This prevents dispensing of cubes. What can I do?.

Hello,

The cause of that is the water inlet valve is not fully closing but instaed its staying open a little and seeping water through it all the time which is dripping into the storage bin for the icemaker and freezing all the ice into one huge block. To repair that the water inlet valve on the back of the ref. where the house water supply line attaches to would need to be replaced.

Ice maker not making ice

Not sure what model you have, but recommend you check to see if there's not a cube stuck in the dispersal unit. If not, then check plastic water supply tube in the back of the icemaker, sometimes they freeze solid and won't let water flow into the ice tray. I've had to use a hair dryer to defrost it if the freezer temp gets too low. Also, sometimes the ice maker inadvertently lets too much water enter the trays and it slightly overflows, which results in the freezing of the gears and paddles of the maker and you simply have to chip away the excess ice that overflowed the trays. If none of the above are the case, make sure you still have a solid water supply to the back of the unit, if the line runs outside of the heated portion of your home, it could have frozen outside of the fridge. Hope this helps.

My ice maker is letting too much water go into the ice tray so it freezes in a solid piece. Cubes do fall down but there is so much water it freezes into a solid block

The icemaker produces small cubes if the water fed into it is not enough and lumped together if too much water is supplied. In order to obtain the desired size of ice cubes, the amount of water supplied to the ice maker needs to be adjusted. Adjust the valve supplying water to the icemaker or the unit in general in such a way that right amount of water fills the ice tray.

Ice maker overflows

The Icemaker may not be dumping the cubes after they freeze then more water pours in on top of them. The icemaker has a heater which turns the cubes loose and allows them to dump. You may find someone to work on an icemaker, not sure. If this is the case, I would replace the icemaker.

Water freezes before getting to ice tray

sounds as if your water inlet valve is not closing fast enough allowing a small amoutn of water to accummulate in fill tube freezing and eventually freezing solid, would try replacing water inlet valve, or even the water filter if this model is so equipped
