Your prepaid service may have been disabled for one or more reasons. Although it depends on the country in which you reside and the terms of service provider, here I list some of the reasons.
You might have not recharged the phone according to the terms and conditions of the cell phone companies which binds users to recharge with a certain amount within stipulated time. For example.... xyz is a telecom company which says its customer that minimum Rs. 100 should be consumed within 4 months else the card will be ceased. That means at any how you have to either consume Rs. 100 within the limit or recharge the phone by Rs. 100 on every 4 months to keep the card active.
You might have not responded to the company's call which they make time to time to check whether the card is active or it is in good hand.
There may be toll free number of the company. You can contact them and ask the problem about.
You have to call customer support of the provider that you are with (i.e. Vodafone, Telstra, etc.). After you pay the exit fee, they will move you from postpaid to prepay and you have to recharge your mobile with prepaid credit.
