Question about Philips Magnavox M61117 (DBM61117)
While i am watching T.V. my converter box has been turning itself off every 5 minutes for the last 4 days. The one year warranty is up. Where can I get it fixed and how much will it cost? Would it be better to buy a new one? Sometimes the converter box stays on and the T.V. will go to a black screen. Then when I turn the T.V. off and then back on, it comes back on for about 5 minutes and either the converter box or the T.V. will shut off again. Most of the time the converter box will shut down by itself and the T.V. screen will show "snow". Then I turn the converter box back on, and the T.V. comes back on again for 5 minutes and shuts off again. What is wrong?
Check that you have not got an auto power off setting on. Check that the aerial connections are good. That the signal is strong from the stations it is picking up. Weak signals can cause the box to shut down.
It the box is very hot when it shuts down, you might have a fault on it.

My screen is black, why do I not have a picture?

It sounds like the entire screen goes blank with your problem. My problem is the lower half of the screen goes blank. Do you think the SSB is also the problem? What are your thoughts about the "Video Board" or the X Board?
Do you know where to purchase parts?

I had a similar problem with my Phillips 42 in. LCD HD TV.
Here's the problem. The Power Supply Board. I opened my TV up(warranty was up of course) and found several bad capacitors. Phillips and several other companies were sold capacitors that although were highly rated failed within 5 years because of a lack of preservatives. All sorts of electronic equipment is now being effected due to these defective capacitors.
1. Take it in and have it fixed
2. Open it up, check the board for faulty capacitors(bulged or leaking) Buy a new Power supply board and install it.
3. Remove PSB, remove faulty capacitors and replace with compatible new ones.
Hope this helps
