Question about Philips 37PF7320A 37 in. HD-Ready LCD Television

Phillips 42 inch television

My menu screen continues to come on when I turn on the TV until I push my menu button on the remote. Then 3 or 4 seconds the menu screen comes on again. I continues to do that until a few more minutes then it comes on again. Sometimes it will let you watch TV for an hour or so then it starts appearing again on the screen

This can be solved with software release version V1.1.0 (or higher) that is now posted on the Philips web site. Go to the software section for download and more information or click here.

  • Download the latest software from the Philips web site and update TV by using a USB memory stick. (One without any other files on it is best).
  • Follow the Automatic Software Upgrade Procedure described in the Directions For Use (DFU) that came with the FTV.
The procedure is listed below:
  1. Turn off the TV.
  2. Insert the USB memory stick into the USB port on the TV.
  3. Turn the TV on.
  4. The software update will begin automatically.
  5. After the software update is complete, turn off the TV.
  6. Remove the USB Memory stick.
  7. Turn on the TV. The TV will start up with the new software.

It sounds like a short in the menu button, most likely the one on the TV itself (though it could be the remote). To rule out the remote, just remove the batteries from it and see if it still does it - it probably will.

Fortunately, this should not be too hard to fix. You'll need to remove the faceplate around the menu button, and then look at the wires. Somewhere between the button and the board those wires connect to, you should find a spot where two bare wires or connectors are close enough that they almost touch. It may be that the wires are stripped somewhere, or that one of the connectors is bent over towards the other. If it's stripped wire, wrap it in electrical tape. If it's a bent connector, bend it back (and possibly wrap it in electrical tape as well).

Either something's causing the wires to move just enough that they occasionally touch, shorting, and thus the TV registers it as the menu button being hit, or they are close enough that the power occasionally arcs from one to the other, with the same result. Separating and insulating them should do the trick.

How do I reset the password on 42 inch panasonic t.v. ?

It can be reset by turning the tv on and while pressing the "volume down button on the main unit, press the menu button on the remote control for more than 3 seconds. The self-check menu appears on the screen. Then, disconnect the ac cord from the wall outlet. You will back to when you first bought the set.

I have a gateway 42 inch TV and the onscreen menu

1. check the batteries in your remote. if the batteries need replacement replace them
2. Then click the exit button on the remote.
I am not sure of the model of you TV but your user manual should instruct on how to remove the menu screen this is possible that the TV needs a reset.
3. You can unplug the set for 30 second and this usually will solve this issue if not then there is a firmware issue or circuit issue.
Hope this helps you with your issue. Have a great day!

What would you suggest? I have been reading about replacing a fuse or board? Most of those are on the 42 inch version---I have teh 37 inch version.

Follow these instructions to the "T". On step 13 use factory on the right menu block instead of the left.
The procedure resets your monitor to factory setting on the boards an eeprom. It may or may not work if you have a bad component.
1. Using the Volume button (Remote or Monitor) turn the volume all the way down.
2. Hold the Menu button on the Monitor.
3. Press the Menu button on the Remote.
4. Press and hold the Volume button on the remote for 5 seconds and then release the Menu button on the Monitor. After this step the date will appear on the left side of the screen within 10 seconds.
5. Click the Menu button on the remote.
6. Click the Left Arrow button on the remote.
7. By using the Down Arrow button, scroll to Settings and then click the Left Arrow button.
8. Highlight "Eepreset" and click the Left Arrow button. (The monitor will turn off at this time)
9. Push the Power button on the remote, the unit will turn back on.
