I can't even install the cd that came with the monitor because I can't see any instructions. The monitor worked just fine before I installed those two things- so wouldn't it work now?

  • ecseagull Oct 04, 2009

Did you get my previous reply? I have not been able to install the cd that came with the graphics car because the screen is shuts off - the computer is on - the front lights are green (power on) and yellow (?) is that saying the power supply unit is not working? It isn't making any noise - other than the initial fan noise when it first comes on.

  • ecseagull Oct 04, 2009

Previous suggestion was to try another monitor (the one I have was working wonderfully before I installed the new power supply and graphics card - so wouldn't it work now? The front lights on the computer are green (power on) and yellow (?) is that saying the power supply is not working properly? Could that be why the monitor shuts itself off? I have not been able to install the graphics cd because the monitor is black.

Are you able to get a image from the computer as it boots up and then it dissapears once windows starts? If so it sounds like it might be because the new video card is causing the problem because the drivers for the old video are trying to run. Go into the BIOS and verify that the AGP settings are correct for the card you installed. Make sure AGP 4X is set if it is a 4X card or 8X if it is a 8X card. Now if your computer can only do 4X AGP setting and you purchased a card that can only do 8X THEN THAT CARD WILL NOT WORK ON YOUR COMPUTER. Also try turning off AGP fast writes in the BIOS if they are on...some cards are not capable. When you first boot up the computer try pressing F5 continually until a boot menu comes up. It will have some options to choose from. Boot the computer up from the VGA mode selection. This should allow windows to start without the graphics drivers. If it boots up then install the new software/drivers from the disc that came with the video card. If you are not getting any video display from the time the computer first boots up then there might be a configuration problem with the AGP settings in the BIOS. Try resetting the CMOS by using the jumper on the motherboard or remove the watch battery from the motherboard for about ten seconds then re-install. This will clear the BIOS settings to the factory default and may fix the problem. Let me know if you have more questions.

And let me know what model Compaq and what model video card you are using so I can verify the video card can work on that motherboard. Also you said that a new power supply was installed...Was the old one bad and it was replaced? Also some video cards require additional power pugged into it from the powersupply or they will not work. Check and make sure that if it has a connection for power that it is plugged in. Some cards use the smaller power connection that is used on floppy drives. Let me know what you find.

If your Compaq computer model is s4300nx then according to the specifications on the website the computer is only capable of AGP 4X. So if the videocard you installed can do AGP 4X/8X it should work but if the card only does 8X then it will not work in your computer. Let me know if you have more questions.

Ok, then first of all remove the card and power supply and then again install both....

i think that there must be some power supply fault.... means you forget to put some cable to there place... so please check it again...

I want to add a 2GB video card

First of all should check if on-board slot corresponds to that of the video card
Then check compatibility of video card with your motherboard but need model of both.
After you'd installed it you should modify BIOS settinngs

Need recovery disc Compaq Presario SR1500NX

It's easy to get the Restoration Disk/s for an HP computer, Margaret.

May be able to guide you on here with repairing your computer also, and leave the 'GEEKS' at Best Buy to twiddle their thumbs, and make money off of someone else.

On the back of your Compaq Presario SR1500NX Desktop PC, is a white sticker.

Service Tag

You need to write down the Serial Number, to give to the nice representative on the phone, for HP Support.

(ONLY give out to an authorized HP representative. Do NOT post on a world-wide forum such as this)

S/N = Serial Number

In the USA call the toll free phone number - 1-800- 474-6836
24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

The Restoration Disk is free. The shipping and handling is not.
$17 for a 5 to 7 day ship, $24 for a 2 to 3 day ship.

Not in the USA?
Use HP Support Worldwide,

When you receive the Restoration Disk/s, turn the computer on, put the disk in the optical drive's tray. (CD/DVD Drive)

Drive closed let the disk load.
WHEN asked click on - Repair (Non-Destructive Installation)

This will repair the basic Windows files.

IF, you have a virus, AND cannot get rid of it, you'll have to take the computer back to Day 1, when it came from the factory.

This will be a Full Install. (Destructive Installation)

ALL of your personal information, AND any programs you have installed, will be GONE!

The computer will be back to Day 1 from the factory, and before you put anything on it.

For additional questions please post in a Comment.

Envision G175 monitor goes on then goes black

This could be one of three issues:
1) Monitor is bad
2) cable is bad
3) video card is bad.

Try to plug the monitor into another computer or laptop and see if your current setup still shows black. If it now works, I'm pretty sure that it's your video card, seeing the other 2 components work fine for another computer. If it still doesn't work, then replace the cable and try again with the other computer. If the new cable doesn't fix the issue, then I think that it's monitor that's simply gone bad.
If it's the video card, you're going to have to open up the PC and replace and reinstall a new one. (do a Google search for help on this, but here's one link: The install is easy, but if you've never done it before I'd recommend help from your local computer geek (someone from work?) or a computer place such as Geek Squad (located in Best Buy).

If this has helped, please give me the appropriate thumbs up! Thanks, and good luck!
