Question about Sears Craftsman LiftMaster Chamberlain Garage Door Opener Wireless Keypad Model 976LM Security+

2 Answers

I have a chamberlain liftmaster and the garage door will go down a little and immdiately go back up. I have checked the safety sensors and they seem to be working. How do you tell when you have defective sensors? Also, I have lubricated the necessary parts and it still does not work. Please help me diagnose my problem. AB

I've had mine do the same thing when a leaf or string was caught on the door bottom and dangling in the electronic eye; clean the dangling stuff off the bottom of your door. Also wipe the "electronic eye" sensors which are near the ground on each side of your door opening. Last, when the roller track is clogged up with grease & dirt, it will cause the door to hiccup as it moves, and think that it hit something. Our repair guy sprayed the track down with WD-40 and it worked great after that. He said don't use grease to lubricate. The manual says to use silicone spray.

There is something blocking the laser eyes at the front of the door. You need to keep a clear opening in front of the lasers for the garage to go down. They are safety beams in case a child runs in the garage they will not get hurt.

Good Luck

Garage door keeps going back up after going down. second thing light won"t come on when sensor beam on door is broken.

Check your door sensors and make sure the small light on each one is lit and not flickering. Tweak them a little. If you cannot get both lights to come on you have bad sensors. This would cause both problems you have.

I have a craftsman garage door opener and I have to hold the button down in order to close the door. The door opens fine and the sensors are clear. The unit starts to close then stops, the lights start...

When you can close the door by holding down the wall button it IS the safety eyes or wiring.

If the eyes are mounted to the track. Many times the track wll move as the door closes causing the eyes to move out of alignment.
Watch as the door moves down and see if they need to be adjusted.

If the eyes are not both lit - they are out of alignemnt or have a wiring problem. try adjusting them and see if the lights come on. - if not check the wiring

Hope this helps

I can't seem to get our garage door safety alignment eyes to balance . they seem to be (by exact measurement in all directions) but the door still won't go down

Are the leds lit on both eyes??

If not check wiring and polarity.

(If mounted to the track) Do they move out of alignment when the door closes. - spread the track a little wider,

Hope this helps

Chamberlain Liftmaster bounces back up sometimes...

On the side of the motor unit you will find the 'down limit control'. Using a small screwdriver turn this control in the opposite direction of the arrow printed on the cover. Some tweaking will most likely be necessary. You can remove the cover and watch the limit switch assembly and get a good idea how it works.

Garage door will not close

HOLDING DOWN THE WALL BUTTON OVERRIDES THE SAFETY EYES.
WHEN HOLDING IT DOWN MAKES THE DOOR CLOSE PROPERLY THE PROBLEM IS IN THE SAFETY EYES.

ARE BOTH LEDS ON? - CHECK FOR A LOOSE OR BROKEN WIRE.
ARE THE EYES WIRED CORRECTLY?
ARE THEY AIMED AT EACH OTHER?

Opener not working properly

Garage doors have safety sensors so the door does not hit the car or anything else that gets in the path of the door. Check to see if anything is blocking sensor mounted on the track near floor. Also sensor my have been bumped and not in alignment. Hope this helps
