Hello there james_wheele.
.
Here's your geek-steer ...

Those beeps you hear ... they are a very, very good thing. It's a pre-coded little diagnostic result report your motherboard (MB) is trying to tell you about in the only language she knows.

Presuming you have Award BIOS, the following are the "official" beep codes:

  • 1 long, 2 short = Video adapter error: Either video adapter is bad or is not seated properly. Also, check to ensure the monitor cable is connected properly.
Repeating (endless loop) = Memory error: Check for improperly seated or missing memory.
  • 1 long, 3 short = No video card or bad video RAM: Reseat or replace the video card.
  • High frequency beeeps while running = Overheated CPU: Check the CPU fan for proper operation. Check the case for proper air flow.
  • Repeating High/Low = CPU: Either the CPU is not seated properly or the CPU is damaged. May also be due to excess heat. Check the CPU fan or BIOS settings for proper fan speed.
Do your beep sequences match any one of these? If so, follow-up with the appropriate suggested corrective action.

If that's a "WTF ???" coming out of your thought bubble, post back and I'll see about giving you some links to pictures of your motherboard, coupled with some instruction, tips, advice on how to perform your particular actions properly.

Good luck, and please post back ...

Gateway desktop powers on, but no display

Hello my friend, try to check your power supply and try to insert correctly your RAM. And for your last option of troubleshooting is to apply a silicon compound to your processor. Then if it does not solve your problem try to reset the motherboard. How to do these follow this steps.

1. Pull out first the CMOS battery.
2. Next pull out the Memory/RAM.
3. Pull out everything that connect to your Hard drive and CD drive.
4. Set the jumper settings of your CMOS to CLRCMOS that is Jumper 2-3.
5. Turn on your system unit and let it for around 15 minutes.
6. After a period of time, put back all what your pull outed.
7. For best diagnostic test, first put the cmos to normal, then put back the memory and test. If it beep once then you successfully reset your motherboard. And if you are successfully reset your motherboard put back all to normal.
That's all.

Hope it would help you.

Good luck.

My pc is booting but no display

Did you check your monitor with other system or individually. If it works fine in these conditions then the issue belongs to your pc.
First of all, you have to confirm that is it the problem of VGA itself or the motherboard. For this, you have to see that does system beep when you start it because system with beeps having the error and the beep sound with continuous or 2-3 beeps relate with different issues. I am going to write down the beep conditions.

1 short beep Normal POST - system is ok 2 short beeps POST Error - error code shown on screen No beep Power supply or system board problem Continuous beep Power supply, system board, or keyboard problem Repeating short beeps Power supply or system board problem 1 long, 1 short beep System board problem 1 long, 2 short beeps Display adapter problem (MDA, CGA) 1 long, 3 short beeps Enhanced Graphics Adapter (EGA) 3 long beeps 3270 keyboard card

best of luck!

IC7-G MB after changing bios memory to F1 on reboot getting

You'll need to reset the Bios.
Take the battery out inside, it's usually on the lower right of the motherboard, it looks like a watch battery.
Unplug the computer and press the power button to get rid of any extra juice from your power supply.
Wait about a minute.
Put the battery back in and plug your system in, the reset should be complete.
Some motherboards have a pin setup to reset the system. If the jumper is in (oox, x being the free pin) for example, then just switch the jumper to (xoo), turn your computer on...nothing will happen, all good.
Put the jumper back from (xoo) to (oox) and it should be reset.
Keep in mind, doing this a lot isn't good for the system. Make sure you know how to switch up the options in your BIOS.
Good luck!

My PC Won't Start

Short beeps are usually a ram error. Try reseatting the ram stick(s) and if more than one then try one at a time and in different slot combinations.

Failing that try resetting the bios via the cmos jumper on the motherboard.

Do all of above with power off at plug off course :)
