Generic comment:

Are you certain you have a pilot light? I have not researched your device. I can tell you many pool heaters are lit electronically. I can also tell you from experience, these little filaments are fragile. They are a little bitter than a Bic but come in a box about half the size of a loaf of bread.

Remove the cover and watch what is happening. You may indeed have a pilot light and you will see it burning and if that is the case, you probably cannot effect this repair. If it is electronic and not lighting, watch for a red glow at the ignition site. That red glow is the filiment heating up to ignite the gas. If you dont see the glow, suspect the igniter. Mine (not your brand) cost about $110.00

The thermal bulb is mis alinged or is defective and can be bought at any hardware store cost's about $45.00 an takes 1/2 hour to change out. you may want to make sure the thermal bublb is directly in the path of the flame as this will cause it not to eok as well.

Heater is not igniting

see this causes and fix it. God bless you
f there is no heat, check the electrical service panel for a burned fuse or tripped breaker. Relight the pilot light (see below). If there is not enough heat, adjust the burner air shutter (see below); and clean the burner ports (see below).
If the pilot light does not light or does not stay lit, clean the pilot orifice carefully with a toothpick, test the thermocouple and replace it if it is faulty (see below).
If the flame flickers, adjust the pilot (see below).
If there is an exploding sound when the burner ignites, adjust the pilot to a higher setting and clean the pilot orifice and the burner ports.
If the burner takes more than a few seconds to ignite, clean the pilot orifice and adjust the pilot light.
If the burner flame is uneven, clean the burner ports. If the burner flame is very yellow, clean the burner; open vents in the furnace room to provide more air; adjust the burner air shutter.
If the furnace makes a rumbling noise when the burners are off, clean the burner and adjust the burner air shutter.
If the air is too dry, wash or replace the evaporator pad if you have a humidifier; test the humidistat; and adjust the water-level float to raise the water level.
If some rooms are too cool and others too warm, the distribution system may require balancing. Refer to the Forced-Air Distribution Fix-It Guide .

Lighting pilot light

Pilot assembly is located inside the bottom compartment, between the the two middle burners while the gas valve is located under the burner manifold. Make sure that the gas line where the unit is connected is open. You need to turn the gas valve knob to "Pilot" position and depress it (to allow the gas to flow on pilot) then light the pilot assembly using a lighter with extended nozzle ( burner igniter). Once the flame is present at the pilot assembly, wait for about 15 seconds (allowing thermopile to heat up) the gradually release the gas valve knob. If the pilot flame is stable, turn the gas valve knob to "ON" position and set the thermostat to desired temperature setting. This will ignite the burners and heat up the oil to set temperature. Just remember, do not do this if there is no oil on fry tank.

Furnance on but wont blow heat. dont know anything about furnaces. in the middel of a blizzard with dropping temps. Not sure where or if pilot light is on.

Observe if the pilot light is on(in the burner) and see if the thermostat is pointing to the right setting and lastly see if the gas valve is in open position.

I HAVE A RUUD SILHOUETTE GAS FURNANCE. The pilot light keeps blowing out. When I light the pilot flame it seems to work perfectly at ignition. As the Manual instructs, I hold down the ignition switch for...

Short answer, yes. However you could have another problem. Replace the thermocouple that keeps the pilot lit. You can get a universal one at any good hardware or farm store. Make sure the new thermocouple is well into the pilot flame. If the blower knocks out the pilot flame again, I would be suspecting cross contamination from a crack in the heat exchanger. As the exchanger heats up, it may be causing a small crack to open and allows the blower to extinguish the flame. It may also be causing a leak of Carbon Monoxide into the heated room air. I would get it checked out very quickly.

I have a technical question regarding implementation of my Carrier furnace within my residence. Specifically, the furnance has been installed for 17 years and I have not had any problems with it. I have...

Thats a safety.

The unit senses a failure to ignite, so it goes into safety mode keeping the blower running to prevent overheating and fires. And keeping the inducer motor running to prevent the same, as well as raw gas build up inside the unit.

The newer systems are "smarter" and can detect more specific problems and failures. The older ones simply know that the thing didn't light, so they bring on the fans for safety.

My Rheem Criterion II gas furnance is not igniting the burner. What can I do to fix this myself?

On a call for heat, the 24 volt thermostat sends a signal to the control module. The control module will indicate a call for heat with a light on the control either blinking or remain solid depending upon model. The inducer (exhaust) blower will purge all gasses from the furnace and pressurize a pressure switch. Once the pressure switch tells the module to continue, the electronic ignition will energize and send 120 volts to the igniter. The igniter will glow and you will be able to see it if viewed thru the small inspection port. Once the igniter gets hot enough, it sends a signal to the module opening up the gas valve (24 volts). Either a pilot will come on or the burner tube will ignite then spread the flame to all burners. Lastly a safety sensor will be looking for a certain temperature within a few seconds and the furnace will continue to operate and the room air blower will turn on in a minute or two.

What could go wrong? The unit will not run if there is no signal from the thermostat (bad thermostat or broken wire), the control module does not sense a signal from the thermostat (bad control), the inducer does not energize (bad motor), the pressure switch does not close (blocked vent piping, bad switch, plugged condensate hose), the igniter does not energize (bad control, bad igniter), the gas valve does not open or there is no gas (bad gas valve, broken wire, no gas), the pilot does not light (dirty pilot), the burner does not light (bad burner, plugged orifice, not enough combustion air), the flame does not spread to each burner (bad flame spreader, dirty flame spreader, more bad burners), the flame safety sensor does not detect flame (dirty or bad flame spreader, bad flame sensor, broken wire, bad control), or the room air blower does not energize (bad fan motor, bad control).

Gas heater won't ignite

I agree. Either the pilot flame is dirty and is not making good contact to heat up the bi metal strip on the pilot assembly, or the pilot assembly is defective. 90% of the time if you clean the pilot orfice and the pilot burner it will take care of the problem
