Make sure it is the monitor and not the video card. I have seen bad video cards display the same symptoms and their drivers. I would test this on another computer before going any further. If it is still the same you know it is the montitor. I do not fix monitors nor do I know of anyonw who does but in my experience it is more costly to fix than to re-purchase.
Don't forget to call the manufacture and make sure that this is not covered under warranty, if it is still under warranty.

Gateway fpd1960 tft lcd monitor has blotchy color lines across screen.

You likely have a bad 'controller' board, the one that converts the analog monitor signal into Row and Column addresses to tell the screen which pixels to light up, and which color. You may have a loose connection where ribbon cables connect to the board or the LCD panel, but you'd have to take it apart to see.
Likely the monitor part would be prohibitively expensive when you add in labor costs. If I owned it, I'd take it apart a bit and check for loose things...

Solid line completly across screen, monitor is brand new

Your comp's video card refresh rate (in Hertz, abbreviated Hz) may not be totally compatible with the monitor. Check the properties of your video card, and change the refresh rate (you may have to look around for it) to 60 Hz. This is a pretty standard refresh rate that works with just about every monitor. If it's already there, I'm afraid someone else will have to try and help!

Hope this helps, and please rate my answer, good OR bad.

Good luck!

Fuzzy area on right side

I also have this same problem.... I took the thing apart blew the dust out and put it back together..... no change. I was not able to fix the problem, but if you go into the color settings you can tweak back the red and green to the the heavy distortion to go away. It is almost unnoticeable now.

Good luck

A thin horizontal line across the screen

I know I have seen thin lines in the past on older CRT monitors, these are usually wires which support the aperture grill. LCD is just a panel so this must be something different. What color is the line? It is probably an error in the scanning process.
