Question about Dell Precision 380 P4 Dual Core 3 GHz (99382) PC Desktop
Hey guys i have a dell precision 380 which i bought from a bankrupt business, it has an 80gb internal drive, and ive bought a 500gb sata drive to go in it, the problem is when i enable the the sata port iun the bios save the changes and try and boot it says unable to auto detect drive, f1 to continue and f2 for setup utility, if you press f2 it just goes back into the bios settings and if you press f1 it says unable to find boot drive, so then i have to go and disable the port again before i can use my machine.
does anybody have any ideas what i can do to make this work??
So the 80GB drive is an IDE drive, right?
Different manufacturer's have different BIOS' so I can't say with certainty what you'll see in yours, but on my ASUS motherboards I have a one of three settings:
When I run both IDE and SATA drives I need to use the third setting. I sounds like you're shutting off the PATA when you enable the SATA so there's no drive from which to boot.
If I misunderstand your problem please let me know.
