The internal bulb in the refrigerator overheated and melted the plastic enclosure holding it. The bulb is generating lot of heat spoiling the food contents below it.

LG has had an issue with this and has re designed the lamp cover and the lamp holder itself. contact your nearest parts supplier with your model and re order this part and you will receive the new upgraded cover.

You need to be aware that brighter bulbs have shorter life span and generate more heat. You need to watch the connections and be sure they don't melt. The plastic headlight enclosures don't offer good air ventilation.
Even though I have found a statement (I think it was in the LGtroubleshooting FAQS on line) that the lights in the newer LFX25960 french door/bottom freezer refrigerator will shut off after a period of time to prevent overheating and melting the plastic housing, I have heard of this problem enough times to worry about it. So I replaced the two 60 watt bulbs in my refrigerator with 25 watt appliance bulbs just in case. They provide more than enough light and do not get as hot when on. It took a while to find them. They are made by Philips and were at Home Depot but not always in stock.
Some of these Kenmore Elite refrigerators built by LG have a design defect that has been the subject of a class action settlement. The interior lights stay on even if the doors are shut, turning the refrigerator interior into a version of the child's Easy Bake oven toy. There are many cases where plastic interior parts of the refrigerator got so hot they melted. I replaced the 60W incandescent bulbs with 7 Watt LED bulbs just in case. The LED bulbs will not get hot enough to harm anything even if left on indefinitely. This model also has problems with the wires inside the door (water dispenser side) The wires break inside the door and are not replaceable. I ran new wires through the interior and bypassed the broken wires to avoid buying a whole new door.
I experienced the same problem with my LG refrigerator (model LFC25760ST). Came home from a weekend trip only to find that the light bulb assembly had melted and dropped onto the top shelf. The interior of the refirgerator compartment was very warm (est. 70 to 80 degrees) and everything in it had spoiled. Fortunately, nothing worse had happened. (According to consumer information on the Internet this LG refrigerator is suspected - but not proven - to have been the cause of a couple of house fires.)
There was no recall, however, because the reports to the Consumer Products Safety Commission were for less than 5% of this model sold in the U.S. But if you contact LG customer service (1-800-243-0000) whether your unit is still under warranty or not they should send someone out to replace the lamp assembly at no charge to you - this one with a heat sensor that serves as a backup to turning the lights off once the doors are closed.
Newer LG refrigerators have LED lights instead of incandescent light bulbs so they don't produce enough heat to warm the interior of the fridge or melt the light housing.

(Note: Leave the other letters after the five numbers in the model number off - they only refer to the exterior finish [i.e., "ST" = stainless steel] and unnecessarily narrow the search so as to miss some links.
The interior light in most refrigerators, and the fan in some, are controlled by a door switch. When the door is closed, the switch is depressed and the interior light goes off and the fan resumes normal operation. If the door is misaligned or the switch malfunctions, the refrigerator may become warm as a result of the non-operation of the evaporator fan and the heat generated by the interior light. Test the switch for continuity using a multimeter. Set the multimeter to the ohms setting X1. Place a probe on each terminal. The multimeter should change from a reading of infinity to zero when the probes touch the terminals. With the probes still touching the terminals depress the switch, the reading should change back to infinity. If it does not pass both of these tests, the switch should be replaced.
Turn the unit off so the bulb can cool and just take it out. Sounds like there is a problem with the switch, as to the melted surround if it is part of the liner there aint nothing you can do, save patch it with fiberglass and resin.
i believe this refrig, is produced by the LG corp, ofr kenmore, they do have a repair for this issue, ( i just changed one last month), which inckluded replaing hte light housing(the new one has a high limit thermostat to cutt off lights in case of this prblem) as well as replacing hte main control board behind the unit.scream safety issue!!!!!
