Twoblood is very close. I have this exact camera. And like it!
When recording movies in the SHQ image quality mode, You restricted to 20 seconds of recording time per movie. Why?
In SHQ mode, the SP-320 records movies with VGA resolution (640 x 480 pixels) and a frame rate of 30 frames per second. Recording this much data, this quickly, requires a large amount of camera memory and a very quick write time.
Olympus’ Type M+ and Type H xD-Picture Card media are high-speed cards and are able to process this volume of information with no loss in quality. Other commercially available media, including Type M and Standard type xD-Picture Card media, are not able to do so. For this reason, this model limits movie recording in SHQ mode to 20 seconds when using media other than Type M+ or Type H cards. The 20-second restriction guarantees that the camera will be able to process the data properly and produce a smooth, error-free movie during playback.
Keep in mind that there is no restriction on movie recording length, other than the capacity of the storage media, when recording in the HQ (320 x 240 pixels) mode.

I'm sorry to inform you but after researching your camera only records for 20 seconds. It has nothing to do with your card. Only 20 second blocks of time.

Movie mode - The total amount of recording time available is shown by the green "00:20" in the lower right hand corner. This is SHQ 640x480 resolution at 30fps, the maximum recording time is 20 seconds. In the lower quality 640x480 @ 15fps or 320x240 size, the recording time is limited only by space on your xD card. The shaking hand icon indicates that we have the image stabilizer turned on.

When I'm recording video using my Olympus xz-1, i keep encountering "card error". Often, it happen after recording for > 2 min. is this my memory card problem or the camera problem.

Hello,
There is actually a very very big chance that it was the memory card. Your camera might have been having troubles writing data to the memory storage device such as the memcard itself due to corrupted files in it. Try to format the memory card to remove any sort of glitches, if it does the same, try a different memory card to see if it will do the same exact error.

I just bought a Z1285. I put SD memory cards with pics and videos made with my Z730 in it and i can view pics ok but when i try to view videos screen reads"unrecognized file format" Whats up with this

Hi this is a simple one!

The Kodak Z730 records movies at the following resolution and frame rates 640 x 480, 12 fps, 320 x 240, 20 fps while the Z1285 records movies at the following resolution and frame rates 1280 x 720, 640 x 480, 320 x 240, 30 fps therefore you cannot view the Z730 movies on the Z1285 and vice versa.

I tried making a video using my camera. I'm not sure why, but it only dcan record 20 seconds. How can I change it?

hi there
you don't say what size your memory card is but 20 secs means its very small.
a 1 gig card gives around 30 mins of standard video 2 gig 60 mins etc, its half that time if you record hq. your camera can only use up to a certain size card so be careful if you buy one and check the manual to see the biggest it can take.

Information

Hey bella143,
The length of the video you can record is not determined by the camera it is determined by the size of the memory card you use. This camera comes with a 512mb memory card, and this camera should be able to record about 45 minutes of video on a 1gb card which should be about 22 minutes of video on a 512mb card. This of course is assuming your memory card is empty. I hope this helps.

Sincerely,
Allan

Olympus C 770 Video Recording

the C770 Ultra Zoom has the ability to use cards larger than 512MB and Type M cards but only for still photos. I tried to use a 1GB card and Type M cards with the same problem "Picture Error". Large videos (over 30 seconds or so) or videos utilizing zoom inevitably caused extremely long time to write the file to the card or failed in the process. The camera is only rated for up to 512MB card from the factory. leicks@cox.net if you have other questions...hope this helps

You can add memory to your camera by purchasing an xd memory card.
Compatible cards
xD-Picture Card (16MB – 1GB)
There are two ways to record the pictures you take with this camera.
Recording pictures to the internal memory
• Pictures are recorded to the internal memory, and when the number of storable still
pictures reaches 0, you must connect the camera to a computer to download the
pictures, and then erase the pictures from the internal memory.
Using an xD-Picture Card (optional)
• Pictures are recorded to the card when inserted in the camera. When the card is
full, you download the pictures to a computer, and then either erase the pictures
from the card or use a new card.
• Pictures are not recorded to the internal memory when a card is inserted in the
camera. Pictures in the internal memory can be copied to the card using the
[BACKUP] function.

• If you use a non-Olympus card or a card used for another application, such as for
a computer, the message [CARD ERROR] is displayed. To use this card with this
camera, use the [FORMAT] function to format the card.

Trouble with video recording

The length of the movies you can record is dependent on both the memory you have left on the card, and the recording mode you are on. With a clean card, and on the default recording mode, your movies should go back up in length. you might be in HQ record mode while you should be on SQ for longer recording time. If all fails, try reformatting the card. Good luck, hope this helped.
