Hello geriatric
Happy Holidays
well, difficult sometimes to get some gagets, to this sort of Laptops, BUT, always is a remedy, go ahead and buy a PCMCIA Cretive Labs X-FI card and that FIX the problem for your 5.0 speakers, or montego bay PCMCIA card too, for 5.1 speakers.

Unfortunately, manufacturers have decided we no longer need analog audio output jacks. I will never understand why. They do however still include an optical audio output connection. Go on Ebay and look up optical to analog audio output adaptor. Should run you about $20. You may also findnone at Best Buy but will set you back $60. Be sure to set the TV settings to PCM audio output. Otherwise you'll get no sound.

Hello Sir, As I wish to buy a home theatre speaker system. And my budget is upto Rs.5500.I have searched for the same in internets,I found two products that are compatible to me.The products are iball...

Both the speakers you have mentioned are multimedia speakers and don't have Dolby Digital, ProLogic or DTS decoders built in. So if your DVD player does not have 5.1 analogue out , only two speakers will work.
Among the two the creative sounds better but like you mentioned the I ball has a remote and higher output on paper !!.
My recommendation is Logitech X-540.Check the link below.

I have the bd230 5.1 system hooked up the speakers, attached the power cord and hdmi cable from receiver to the tv what else do I need to get sound from my tv I have a hd cable.box do I need to run a cable...

The home theater box performs the production of the sound generation. Also, the theater box, distributes the sound to any display devices like TVs, Music MIxers, DVDR, VCRs, ext. The theater box also has connection ports that are recognisable as receptacle area from speakers, woofers, and twitters that combined to form the home theater of devices acquired. First, start by connecting the component parts of the theater system to the box. For example, speakers to an area on the box, twitters, woofers. At which point, the box would require a power cable to an electrican circuit to display functionality mode. The next step is deciding on which display reciver would be providing sound to the theater setup of blasters. For example, choosing to acquire sound from a TV set is achieved by connection cables that derived sound out of the TV to the theater box. E.G. The TV audio output area provides the connectivity of any external audio blasters like with the theater setup. Using the appropiate audio input output connection cables to acquire sound transfer matters. The device may not have been provided with a TV audio input out cable of connections. Acquire from retail input output cables from TV to theater boxes. Remember that, the theater box may have come with a remote control that require separe operations than the TV. The theater system theraafter would require power on buttons if any separate remote controls were acquired as well. Also, the television set would require alteration settings with the remote control. Adjusting the TV sound settings to acquire or direct internal sound to an external setup infrusture is possible explanation also achievable with TV REMOte controller soon after every wireing cables have been established alos powered on to source of current. Logitech X-540 connecting to dell dimension 3000 ???

Your problem is you have a 3 channel sound card on your dell and you bought 5 channel speaker system. You can plug the green to green and get 2.1 sound but you will have to by a 5.1 pci sound like in the link below to get the full use of your 5.1 system.

Connect DVD Player to logitech X 540 Surround System

Bad connection on that one speaker, if you have tested the system with other equipment and it works thn you MUST have a bad connection INSIDE you DVD player. If your DVD had a whole channel out on your output amplifier I beleive then 2 speakers would not work so more than likely you have a bad solder joint inside system for DVD output
