Question about SimpleTech SimpleDrive 160 GB External USB 2.0 Hard Drive

1 Answer

SimpleDrive 160 GB drive is recognized by XP, but cannot access. Have tried on 4 computers. Properties show 0 bytes size and 0 bytes free. Can't even Format Drive. This happened after interrupting an Autoplay that then seemed to hang and not exit. Any ideas?

The drive was damaged during the interuption. This has happened to alot of my flash drives and there is not way to fix it. You can, however, replace the hard drive in the case. Open the case and you will see a small laptop hard drive (that's all it is), purchase a new replacement and throw it in there.

you might tick one box then return after its finished the first repair then return and tick the second box you should not do anything while the chkdsk utility is in progress any input may damage this drive

then you restore it to its default status

Right click on usb drive select properties you will have an array of options

I found that you get best results by ticking one box then returning after it has finished then tick the other box

then you might have restore it to its default status

1 TB Rock Mobile External Harddrive capacity

No. It is not that way. how it is read is as under: 1 K is 1024 bytes 1 MB is 1024 K bytes 1 GB is 1024 MB 1 TB is 1024 GB. As per books. BUT, when it comes to selling HDDs 1 TB is 1000,000,000,000 bytes. the extra 24 bytes at each lelvel have been overlooked. Thats where you loose so much of disk space.

To solve this problem you need a third party burning software. Windows XP does not include the ability to properly recognize DVD's when you drag and drop and sees it as CDRW. When you bought your DVD, there may have been a disk with a version of Nero on it. It works well but there are also other third party software apps that will do as well. Even some free ones. Hope this helps.

Unable to access external WD 500 Gb drive: "You need to format the disk"

It seems vista is the problem. On older operating systems the disk's work fine. My dis was formatted with vista and as a result showed exactly the same message when plugging it into a xp system. Back on the vista it works fine. The ntfs is native to win NT/xp there might have been changes in vista. Also do not use the firewire cabling, i had numerious problems until i reverted back to the usb.

External 120GB passport read failure

I have the same problem - I did get to access the files one time, but not now.

I haven't tried all of these, but did try a couple (that was how I was able to access the data temporarily) - try a different USB slot in your computer, try a different USB cable, and/or try a plugging it into a different computer.

I think I have all of my info backed up, but not absolutely sure.

Good luck
