Re: Boot problem

Hi there, 1st check the video connection, the cable form the screen / Monitor to the Unit / PC. Switch it On and try to hear if there's a beeping sound or view if it is ok and working properly. If still same Problem, you do have a system unit failure. maybe loose connection of a memory, video card or the board it self is failling. TY

New computer won't boot -

I had a similar problem with asus. 1) check online that the motherboard supports that cpu. Mine did not. I had to return it. 2) try the memory in different slots and combinations 3) try a different video card 4) check the CMOS clear jumper os properly set to disabled. Set it to enabled (power off first) 1 time to clear it. reset jumper back to disabled, and power on as usual. I'd suspect the motherboard needs to be flashed, but you obviously cannot flash it without it working... return it to point of purchase, or have them flash it and show you that it's working with your processor before you bring it back home.

No power only orange power light

Hi, It most likely is a faulty power supply or a motherboard issue. Remove the power cord then press and hold the power button for at least 30 seconds. Then plug it back in and hit the power button. This will release any static buildup that might be in the computer and sometimes that causes it not to boot. If nothing is happening it is more likely your power supply than the motherboard.

It keeps shutting itself off ?

When does it shut itself off? Is this happening time you press the power button and during the boot cycle it shuts off without completing the boot to windows? If it shuts down after you've worked on it for a while it could be that it is running hot. If you let it sit a while to cool off then press the power button, if it completes the boot cycle and allows you to work it is definitely running hot. Normally when they run hot if you immediately try to reboot, it will fail. If you let it cool off it will boot successfully. Computers run hot because of a fan not working, dust clogging the fan vents or the Thermal Paste around the CPU and Heat Sink has become hard or too thin to keep the unit cool. If it's not running hot you might have a power supply or motherboard issue. Try removing the power cord and press and hold the Power Button for 30 seconds to release any Static Buildup. Then plug the power cord back in and try to reboot.

There are 2 basic fans in Dell tower one for the power supply and the other for the Processor. If your computer is not booting then the Processor fan is most likely to be the culprit. What could be happening is that the Processor fan is no longer turning fast enough to cool the processor, so normal the processor when it over heats there is either protection to switch off the computer automatically or the computer won't boot. The best thing is to change the fan and make sure it is working properly but checking on the cables that they won't entangle on top of the fan to impede it's movement. You can easily damage your processor if the fan is not working properly.

The shuttle xpc will not boot -- instead of a blue light on the power switch it is flickering orange

This indicates that the mother board might have gone bad. you can try reseting all the memory card's, expension card's, processor fan, battery and put it back in and try see if it works or you might have to replace the motherboard.

Simple dear, I think that you can see the power led and hdd led but it wont boot. Right. So switch the system and than open the cabinet and than remove the RAM , CLEAR THE DUST ON THE SLOT AND RAM. THAN REPLUG IT IN THE SAME WAY. PLEASE DO NOT INSERT IT FORCEFULLY BECAUSE IT WILL GO EASILY IF YOU ARE INSERTING IT IN RIGHT WAY. SO CHECK THE POSITON OF THE NOTCH ON BOTH THE RAM AND SLOT OK

Optiplex GX260 won't boot

I had the same issue and accidentally discovered a temporary solution. Unplug the power from the back of the machine, open the case and unplug the ATX power connection from the motherboard. With the ATX cable unplugged, plug the power cord back in. When you try to turn the computer back on the power light should turn orange and fans should be spinning, with it powered on plug the ATX connector back in. That should turn the computer off. Turn it back on and it should boot fine. You can even shutdown and restart, but when the power is unplugged you will have to go thru the same process to get it back up. This sounds crazy but it worked on mine. Good Luck!
