This is my first post and it would seem to have lost the product I entered. The TV is a Thomson 28WF201

I now have time to have a look at this as well as the motivation as the wife has asked the council to pick the set up on the 16th January, so I have until then to fix it.

I have discovered that there is a spark generated between either the resistor and the object which I take is the SMPS power supply in the attached photo. The spark is drawn on in red.

Altering the bottom preset on this object seemed to correct the problem but on reassembling the problem returned.

I think problem with your SMPS power supply unit. Modern tv comes with microprocessor unit which control switch on/off functions. Check SMT transformer. Check Voltages power suplpy unit. contact service centre for further rectification

Many Mitsubishi projection TVs have bad control panel switches.
These switches fail and lock up the TV's computer, disabling everything.
If you can unhook the control panel, the TV will work fine with the remote.

Remove the speaker grill. Pull on the sides, it should come loose with a little effort.
Remove the access panel by removing the 4-6 screws using a philips screwdriver.
Follow wires from control panel inside to the connector labeled "DZ".
These will be the thinner wires, not the thick ones that go to the video jack.
Unhook this connector and the TV should work with the remote.

You can replace the switches, but the Mitsubishi buttons sometimes will just fail again. Using another brand of switch may be more reliable.
Better to just use the remote and let the buttons be useless. Nobody uses these usually anyways.

Some models will require you to unplug the TV for a minute, and then plug it back in and wait about 2 minutes before the TV will work again (reboot the microprocessor inside). The biggest issue with repairing your TV by unplugging the control panel like this, is that you no longer have the green LED on the front panel. Many Mitsubishi TVs will flash the green LED for about 90 seconds and then the TV is ready to turn on. Without this panel connected, you just have to remember that you need to wait 90 seconds after plugging in AC power before the TV will be functional.

If this fix does not help resolve your "dead" set issue, you likely have a bad power supply or bad signal board. The way to know is to check the +5 volt standby line inside. You can check this on the same connector to the front control panel for an easy check, without opening up the back. Just check all the pins and one of them should have the +5 volt standby sending power to the switches. Use the outside of the video jack as your cold ground. Thanks and good luck!

LG 50PJ350 TV - if watching DVD and on pause for more than 10 minutes, the TV switches off. Why? Can I stop it switching off?

Its going into standby mode and unless you hit a button on the remote or the TV, the TV assumes you are not watching and turns it off as a power saving feature. You used to be able to disable this feature by holding down menu on your remote and holding down menu on the TV for about 10 seconds however with this model TV that option is not available with the remote provided. I'm told you need to purchase a 105-102M Service Remote and that will allow you to get to the service menu to disable the Standby feature. Good Luck!

It sounds like you may have faulty tact switches on the front control panel that are acting intermittently. If one of the switches is defective it can cause all kinds of erratic behaviour.

Sagem 45 inch rear projection tv keeps switching off

It is most likely some bad capacitors on the power supply board that are causing it to go into "safety mode" and shuts it down.

The TV switches it self off

Sorry to here about your TV problems but it is almost imposable to help someone with technical problems if they don't list a product, model or P/N number.
Either-way, I would try moving the unit in an area where it has more breathing space if poss-able.
Also, is the unit in a air conditioned area or in a Damp basement or Florida room ?
I would also, go on line and see if Panasonic has any call backs on this unit.
This may be a feature which can be reset without to much trouble.
Next time please list the size & model #.
