Could be park neutral safety switch , move gear selector to neutral too see if it starts then .If not that , you need to view wiring diagrams an test the starter electrical circuit's . Also should read how that circuit works , what's all involved . Does the security light come on when it won't start ? Starter enable relay , pass - key decoder module . alot involved here . Free wiring diagrams here http://www.bbbind.com/free-tsb Enter vehicle info. Year , make , model an engine size . Under system click on engine then under subsystem click on charging system . Starter circuit is located there also . Do you have knowledge of anti- theft system on GM vehicles of that year ? How to videos on youtube for testing starter circuits .
In the starter you have the B+ terminal which is power from the battery. The other big gauge wire which goes from the solenoid to the actual starter motor supplies power to the motor once the solenoid switch makes contact during cranking. The other wire the smaller gauge wire is power from the ignition switch. The starter grounds through its case. Hope this helps.
you dont need a diagram. very simple sytem.
get a electrical probe and earth one end, touch tbe other en to the starter solenoid smaller wire. The large wires go to battery and to starter motor. Touch small terminal and press starter button, probe should light up (ign on), if it doesnt, chase the wiring up to the switch. If it does light up, take a jumper wire and cross the two larger wires and see if the starter engages (obviously first check battery is fully charged). if the starter turns over, replace starter solenoid (its only a 12v unit). if starter still not turning, youwill have to pull out starter motor unit for inspection.
