Lots of people are doing this and part depends on what your home theatre has to offer in the way of connections.

With laptops you haver to tell the laptop to use other displays This is usually FN + F5 or FN + F6

For sound most use the LINE OUT on a computer or laptop and connect that to a suitable input on the receiver using a 3.5mm to stereo phono lead.

If you are lucky enough to have an OPTICAL sound out on your computer and one on the home system that would be a better option.

For the video side again it depends on what your computer has to offer

If it has DVI and your TV or home system has DMI then that is the very best option. Remember to lower the resolution on the computer first and to check and of your graphics card options for dual display. A DVI to HDMI lead is needed for that

NVIDIA graphics cards seem to work best in this area.

If you have a VGA connector on your TV that is another great option and you would only need a VGA lead.

Some cards and laptops have S-VIDEO out. Lots of TV's and home systems have these and the display is quite reasonable. If using S-video connections use a GOOD quality cable.

Some people can only obtain a black and white picture so check your graphics card did not come with any special adaptor.

Another method is composite video Even that is not always 100%

Some laptops need a special S-video adaptor which is just a short little cable to properly enable the S-video and convert S-video to composite. That is probably the worst way to do it.

Using a VGA to component lead is also an option but results vary wildly from no picture to quite good. A lot depends on the quality of the lead once again.

I use the optical sound and DMI lead to power a 50" Sony with great sound and picture.

How do I conect my Acer aspire 5750 lap top to my sony hdmi tv. I have recently brought a VGA cable that allows me to connect my laptop to my tv. The problem is that everytime i connect the tv and the...

"Out of range" means that the picture displayed by the laptop cannot be displayed by the TV, either because the resolution is not supported or the refresh rate is not supported.

Sometimes, I've had to set the refresh rate (from the laptop Display settings) to 59Hz to get it to work as opposed to the default 60Hz.

What resolution does your TV support? What resolution does the laptop support?

Matching these as closely as possible and you'll get the picture on the TV screen.

Good Luck and let us know how it goes,

How do I connect my Acer 5720-4126 to my HDTV (Sony Bravia) to watch tv shows from Hulu etc?

It depends on what connections your TV has, as well as your laptop. I am not familiar with your laptop, so I'll go with generics. Most laptops have a S-video connection, which also is a common TV connection. I would buy at least a 12 foot cord, otherwise you're sitting in front of the TV really not enjoying whatever it is you're putting on the screen. If your laptop has a HDTV connection like the TV has, simply buy a HDTV cord and go from there. One of the more important things is (usually) you have to have the connections made and the TV on before booting the laptop. If you are lucky enough to have a VGA input connection on your TV, you can get a VGA cable (many of the older monitors have a cord with a plug at both ends, simply use one of these) but you still need to have the cord connected as before, before booting. Usually you have to set up your display after the second display is recognized. Go to control panel, display. Or you can get there from right-clicking on the desktop. Either way, then go to settings, then advanced. Hopefully you have Catalyst as one of your tabs there. If not, I would suggest you get some updates as it is a lot easier with the Catalyst control to set up a second display. Once you get to the Catalyst control, you might have to click "detect" or it might be there - you should see a second display below the main display icon. Right click on it, and select either "extend main onto monitor" or "clone". The difference is: Clone makes the new screen match your laptop screen. This is sometimes annoying, especially if you have family or guests watching whatever it is you are putting on the screen. Extend onto main allows you to show only the focus of your presentation. Think of a Powerpoint presentation you have seen - you did not see anything but the focus, meaning the slides. The problem comes when you want to watch something that does not go onto the extended portion of your screen. You can drag some things to the other screen, such as a window with images, but not all things work in an extended window. Depending on how you watch Hulu, you might be better off to use "clone". If you get it to go full screen, clone is definately the way to go.

Plus, if you use "extend main onto monitor", you have to remember to move the screen back when you're done, otherwise the next time you try to use that program or window, it won't show up on your screen. So try clone first, and if that is acceptable, it causes the least problems.

When I connect my aspire 5315 to the tv and boot the computer it shows the boot on the tv but suddenly stops when the computer comes up and does not show the monitor again. I press Fn f4 and nothing...

Fn + F5 is what changes external display mode on acer laptops. Press and hold Fn, then press and release F5 to change between three modes:
Laptop display only.
Both displays.
External display only.
You need to go into your display properties and extend your desktop onto the external monitor. If this doesn't solve it, let me know :)

I want to wath a movie online and play it from my laptop through to the tv - how do I do this

Use an s video cable or a vga cable to attach your laptop to your tv. Then switch your tv to the proper input, (AV). Now you must make sure that your display settings are correct. Go to the control panel, to access the display, in xp it's under appearance and themes. Once you open the display properties, click on the settings tab. You will see a depiction of your monitor indicated by a #1 and a shaded box with a #2 in it. Click on the #2 box, then right click, in the pop up box click attatch. Now click apply at the bottom of the window and close. The background of your desktop should be on your tv now. To put images onto you tv, drag them all the way to the right of your computers display and they will appear on your tv. You are basically using your tv as a second monitor.

I hooked up the cable to my tv and laptop but I am not getting a picture on the tv? How do I get the tv to work with the laptop?

Are you using the VGA (15 pin connector) connection?

What operating system are you using?

If windows then right click anywhere on your desktop.
- Select "Personalize" (VISTA) or "Properties" (XP)
- Select Display Settings

From there you can extend your desktop onto a second monitor (your TV). Or mirror your desktop onto the TV...depending on your graphics card and the options it provides.

Let me know if you need any more clarification.

I connected my hp laptop to my pioneer plasma via svga cables. When i select my pc input using my tv remote it says "plasma display no input signal". How do I fix this?

Hello. You have to go into your Display Settings, in your HP Laptop, and chose the Dual Screen/Monitor Setting & make sure you check the "Extend my Windows Desktop onto this Monitor" Box. If you are trying to view your Internet Browser on your TV - you will need to Click on and Drag your Browser to the Right... of off your Laptop Screen and onto your TV Screen. This will take care of your problem!

Need to know how to display the Laptop screen onto my Tv please?

you either need a Tv-Out card or an adapterTV Out box to connect the Laptop to the TV. Optionally if your Tv has a SCart connector(Google for what that means), you could connect the Laptop directly to the TV, instead of the adapter.
