I'm installing an old D-link DI 634M a friend gave me. when I have it all set with the e-net cable coming from my cable modem, I can access the web by logging in over the wireless part of the D-link (with the network name and password I set up) but cannot get to the web from my other hardwired e-net PC hooked to port 1 on the d-link. Any ideas why or what I need to change to get the hardwired PC to 'see' the internet?

You said you can get connection coming from modem directly? Or did you mean the modem is going into the wan port of the router?
Did you try all the ports on the router?
Did you check the cable?
Did you try turning off the wireless on your the pc and connecting via e-net cable?
Make sure it is not the pc or cable.
Also, check and make sure a firewall is not waiting for you to add it to the trusted sites list.
Are you getting an IP when you plug in the cable and are the lights lit up on the router and nic?
I would make sure you got a connection to those ports via another computer before moving on, and try using all the ports with a different cable if possible.

My DI-634m Is not giving me an IP address

Are you trying to connect to the wireless network ?
If you are not getting the IP address then you might not be connected to the wireless network.
Make sure that you know all the correct wireless settings of the router.
If your network is secured then you have the correct network key.
If you are not sure about the wireless settings of the router then you will need to access the router set up.

Can I use a D-Link DI 634M as an access point?

Sure you can! As you can with any wireless router pretty much.

1. Assign the new router (AP) to an IP on your subnet that's not your existing router's IP... i.e. 192.168.0.2
2. Disable the DHCP server on the "AP"
3. Create a new wireless network on the "AP"
4. Plug your existing network/router into a LAN port

DO NOT USE THE WAN PORT

Voila! You have an access point!

Connecting D-Link DI-634M to HughesNet HN9000

I hate it when ISPs give you devices that dictate how your network has to be setup. They should just give you a modem which give a public IP to whatever connects to it.

For this to work you have to connect the cable from the hughes box to your router on one of the four regular jacks on the back NOT the internet/wan jack you would normally use.

Set the IP of the Dlink to 192.168.0.254
Subnet mask 255.255.255.0
default GW 192.168.0.1

This SHOULD allow the router to act like a switch. I have a linksys that has an option to make it function as an access point , which is what you need for this modem, but I dont see any option for the d link you have to do that.

Hughes have a knowledgebase which may be of some use to you.
