There are several causes that can contribute to the please wait error. The most common seems to be the capacitors, but after replacing them, you might still find the please wait error, as was the case with mine. Upon further review, and after acquiring the service manual with schematics, I concluded that the switching IC 1150 was not properly functioning, switching on and off to provide the pulsing current through the primary windings of the transformer. Upon additional review I found that the reason IC1150 failed is because it had over heated because the fan had quit working. With the fan not working, IC1150 quickly over heated, causing the power failure in the power board. If replacing the caps doesn't correct the problem, consinder looking at replacing IC1150, but first, find out if the cooling fan failed to work, causing the failure of IC1150

Pan. dmr-e85h turned itself on, self-check

Open case and look for failed capacitors, which are cylindrical and will have a bulging top and a yellow/gold substance leaking out. If this is the problem, search for previous solutions that mention "solder capacitor C1260" for the DMR-E85. I had a similar 'no power' problem with my DMR-E55 and my son and I were able to fix it Sunday. Not hard to do and mine is working again!

DVD Recorder frozen - please wait on display

You need to replace the STR-G6353 voltage regulator on the power supply board. Full proceedure with photos at this link: http://www.rbjtech.net/electrical/e85/e85.htm#0 I did this on my DMR-E85H and it now works like new.

Frozen on the Please Wait

This is a hard drive failure and is expensive to fix, and not worthwhile in my opinion.  Mine packed in with a disc stuck in the disc drive. It was difficult to retrieve. If you have no disc trapped in the tray, I would suggest dismantling anyway and removing the hard drive if you have a load of unwatched content recorded. You can buy a cable to hook it up to a PC - Although I have not done this yet.

After apprrox 5 mins unit switches off

Not sure if this will help, but mine acted up similarly before it went with a message of "Please Wait" on the display at all times. Searched the web, found out two capacitors needed to be replaced. My brother was able to easily solder the parts in a very short time. Google the name and model number with the words Please Wait and you can see how many folks have had this problem. Your machine may be on its way to this problem.

I have good friends that got their machine at the same time. Same thing happened to them within one month of me telling them about it. Our machines are about 4 years old as well.

Another big problem. I then got a U99 Error Code. Completly frozen machine. From my researcy I may have caused the problem by storing too much on hard drive. Once you transfer video, get it off the hard drive. They say mine can not be fixed. Problem is, they do not make them anymore. No hard drives for recording or dubbing DVDs.
