Question about Dishwashers

I have a GE monogram zbd5900 that continues to drain, won't shut off. The drain pump just runs. None of the lights on the control panel will come on, tried pressing and holding buttons to clear, nothing. Turned off and on circuit breaker (even left it off overnight) and did not change. Drain is not blocked, pulled the unit out and put water in the bottom and it pumped the water out just fine. any thoughts?

took everything apart, the flapper valve was working fine. when the styrofoam piece was removed and the arm allowed to drop down, the solenoid started to smoke. No lights will show up on the control panel, is this normal?

See if you can access the tech sheet, should be on the right side of the underside of the unit after you remove the toe panel, or perhaps in the console. Almost sounds like a stuck key pad but the tech sheet might shed more information on this malfunction.

Good Luck

This happens because, Once the drain solenoid is activated the first time during the cycle, the valve will not return to the wash position even though the water drains completely out and filling begins. The solenoid de-energizes but the valve remains in the drain position, even if you try to manually move the cam back to the wash position. It seems as though the vacuum created by the pump is holding the valve in the drain position.
---------------
It sounds like the flapper valve has come loose from it's shaft.
Remove the spray arm assy etc., then hold the flapper in the drain position while moving the solenoid cam to see if this is the problem. If you manually force the cam into the wash position then the flapper should also go to wash position but according to the above it does not
-----------------
Actually it is water pressure that holds the flapper shut. When the unit goes into a drain cycle the solenoid is activated for a few seconds. It then deactivates but the water pressure keeps it closed. When the water is pumped out the pressure is reduced and the valve is returned to the wash position by the spring. Seems like this is not happening and the valve is staying closed even with reduced pressure.
--------------------
you will require the solenoid to be replaced.you can order and get the parts at

thanks, this will help.thank you for using fixya.keep updated.please do rate the solution.

Did you have a power outage recently? They are notorious for damaging circuit boards--usually about 3-4 weeks after the power interruption strange things will either start happening or *not* happening with appliances due to damaged computer chips on the boards starting to fail. Your symptoms indicate either a blown user interface(push button panel) or a defective main control board(board with the brains on it) or both!

Monogram zdbc240 frost inside doesn't shut off

First thing to check is the condenser here is a diagram to show you the condenser, it is #75 on the diagram you want to make sure the coils are free and clear of any dust and dirt that would stop good air flow, this would be one reason the unit would run continuously. Let me know if it is clean.

Seems to me that might be a clogged defrost drain or maybe a dripping water valve. Doing that. I have the service manual with nice pictures in it that show clearly how to access the components.

Oven light doesnot turn off

HI, This will be a simple fix here. The light switch will be the culprit. The circuit is damaged, thus, allowing for a continuously closed circuit. Simply replacing the switch will solve this issue. The switch should be mounted on the control panel. remove the control panel front trim screws, to access the switch housing.

Drain pump starts and stops prior to final spin cycle

Jayron, is the motor jogging? start to spin, stop, start to spin stop. If so, your motor is jogging between the high and low start windings. The motor during spin should start on the high speed windings and stay there until most of the water is drained. GE came out with a new motor, harness and run cap because of this. If you have a meter, there should be a white and white/red wire going to the motor. If you have a steady 120V and it's doing this jogging, replace the motor with the kit...Let me know if this the issue, Catriver..post back.
