Never heard of that telescope.

Put the eyepiece with the largest number written on it into the telescope. Go out side during the daytime and practice focusing on a distant object.

We were given this as a gift with no manual. The on button must have been on a very long time. Is there a part, battery etc. that would need to be replaced in order to see out of it?

This appears to be a reflector telescope on an ALT AZ mount. It does not need power to be used. You might be referring to a red dot lighted finder scope on top of the main tube, which does have a small watch battery inside. The battery is available at Wal Mart and many other places.

Contact Galileo scopes for a manual here:

You will NOT be able to locate those stars at the exact coordinate given for them. This is a scam.

While it might make a nice gift, we recently tried to locate a gift star using our Astronomy club's 16 inch computer GOTO scope. NOTHING was at the location in the sky.

Sorry but other than a "nice" gift you will not find anything in your 4.5 inch scope.

My Telescope is described as a Meade Model DS60. This was a gift to my grandson and in the middle of a messy divorce, his dad screwed up assembly, probably lost parts. In any case, I no longer have...

Meade maintains a web page with all their manuals. Find your scope and download a copy.

I believe I see your scope on the upper right hand side of the web page.

Upside down images on my telescope. Bought used -no manuel. What to do?

In a refractor images are upside down as with most telescopes. You need an image erector to create a normal correct R and L and Up and Down image. It is a lens which goes in front of the eyepiece to give a correct image.

Celestron has sold a few different 4.5" Newtonians. The finest was the C4.5 by Vixen of Japan. the manual is here:

The FirstScope 114 is another and the manual is here:

SMA is for symetrical modified achromate. A Kellner eyepiece design. This is an inexpensive eyepiece, but not a bad one. A lunar filter is basically a sunglass lens for the eyepiece to cut down on the moon's brightness. ScopeStuff.com for camera adapters. HTH, Geo.
