Ge refrigerator gsh22kgmbww. Had it repaired

Ge refrigerator gsh22kgmbww. Had it repaired several times under warranty. Had it repaired a year ago (out of warranty). Had a new heating element and fan motor installed. Had it repaired again a few weeks later. All repairs were because the freezer was not defrosting and the refrigerator was 50 degrees or more. It's doing the same thing and the repair man said it needs the main board and he wouldn't fix it as it is a defective refrigerator. Is GE replacing the main boards on this model?

SOURCE: How do you replace the mother board on the GE refrigerator?

Hi,
If the diagnosis is correct (and I believe it is) your part number is correct and can be purchased for about $130.00 online or at your local appliance parts retailer. It is very easy to replace.

{{{UNPLUG THE FRIDGE!}}}

Pull the fridge out away from the wall so you can get behind it. As you're looking at the back of the fridge, you'll see a panel at the top left. You can't miss it. It has about 15 screws holding it in place. Remove these (use a 1/4" nut driver or socket) then remove the panel.

Now if you look closely at the board and take note of the connectors, you'll see that it's fool-proof... which means that after you take them off, you can NOT get it wrong when you put them on the new board. <-- Now THAT'S good news, huh?

OK, you'll see 3 connectors on one end of the board and they are all white. You'll see 2 connectors at the opposite end, one is white and the other is blue. Remove the 3 white connectors first, leave the other 2 for last.

Next, look closely at the board again... you'll see 4 white plastic tabs sticking through the board. These are the stand-off clips that hold it in place. Look very closely and you'll see that these clips have a "locking" tab on them. Use the tip of a knife to push the tab in while pulling out on the corresponding section of the board. Do this on all 4 corners and the board is out.

Now you should still have the 2 remaining wire connectors (the blue one and the white one) still on the board, remove them now. Pull out your new board, install the 2 connectors (blue and white) first then mount the new board onto the plastic stand-off clips, then connect your 3 remaining white wires connectors. After that is done, plug in the machine for test. You should hear the compressor start within 5 seconds or so.

When you re-install the aluminum cover, make sure that you connect that "flying" green ground wire to one of the screws used for the panel. It's necessary.

All in all, about a 20 minute job.

Hope this helps!

Food compartment cools ok; bottom freezer doesn't.

the problem when a fridge needs a condensor fan is that it causes the unit to work harder there is a good chance that it cooked the sealed systm also might want to check the condensor for a clogg or dirty condensor.the temp around the unit ideally these are to be used in rooms of 65 to 96 degrees so if in garage can be hard to work well

Sounds like the defrost timer doing its job but with loud efforts. GE is known for its different sounds some clanks to clicks to popping. Thank God for good hearing but curse GE for its poor noise reduction efforts. This is why GE is cheaper than its other competitors. They cut corners welcome to the world of GE. BB

It sounds asthmatic when the motor is on.It can be quite loud and annoying. We do not have the owners manual.

Good day,
Lots of motors.
Evaporator fan motor in freezer compartment.
Condenser fan motor in the bottom rear of the machine next to the compressor.
Lastly, the compressor itself.
The first 2 can be replaced easily.
The compressor no. If you've determined it's the compressor, then unless the machine is under 5 years of age and under warranty, then it is unlikely it would be cost effective.

Some GE machines, from some time ago, made very weird sounds when running, but on contacting GE, they claimed that was the sounds a refrigerator makes when making cold.
I didn't agree but .........

Everyone has their opinions. Been repairing for a long time and in all honesty, I don't think we ever had a call with your problem on your model. Perhaps was a molding issue with the housing and it was missed by the manufacture and passed through the assembly line un-noticed. Don't get me wrong, all maufactures have problems but the company in General is a good Company. Perhaps you should give them one more time and call again, speaking with soemone higher up the echelon. When a rep answers, kindly tell the you would like to speak with their supervisor. The people you speak with did not make your refrigerator and the problem is not theirs personally. With the right approach, I am positive your issue can be resolved. A final note...expect to pay money as the warranty is only 1 year and you are into the third year. Good Luck, Eric Campion
