Remove the separate "flange" component at the top of the dirt cup FIRST. Of course this is after you've moved the lever to "open". The cup should slide out easily--don't force it!
Good Luck!

This vacuum takes a Dirt Devil F1 filter. Follow the link below to purchase the filter directly from dirtdevil.com. Thanks!

Hoover troubleshooting

Hello! The umbrella tube is a stationary part, it does not rotate. The dirt that enters in the dirt cup spins around the umbrella tube. If no dirt is entering into the dirt cup this can mean there is a blockage either in your hoses and/or your filters. Try these quick trouble shooting steps below.

1. Remove the dirt cup canister from the vacuum. Twist off the dirt cup lid.
2. Remove the primary foam filter. Hold filter under running water until water runs clear. Allow 24 hours to air dry. If the filter is really dirty it may need to be replaced.
3. Slide the Hepa filter out. Tap the filter against the trash can until dirt stops falling. Replace the Hepa filter. (Do not wash)
4. Remove the hose from both ends. Use a broom stick to gently loosen and clear any clogs from hose.
5. Use a wooden spoon or something similar to loosen and remove any clogs from the lower hose. Hope this helps!

No dirt in cup and the red thing does not turn

Hello! It sounds like your vacuum has lost suction. This is caused by either a clog or a filter that needs to be cleaned or replaced. Please try these brief trouble-shooting steps.

1. Remove the dirt cup. Twist off the dirt cup lid.
2. Remove the filter cartridge from dirt cup.
3. Separate the foam and cartridge filters. Wash foam filter under running. Allow 24 hours to air dry outside the vacuum.
4. Tap the excess dirt out of Hepa filter. Hepa filter may also be washed. Allow 24 hours to air dry.
5. Check the secondary filter by removing the filter cover from base. Rinse the foam filter under running water until it runs clear. Allow 24 hours to air dry.
6. The red baffle tube inside of the dirt cup is apart of the filtration of the vacuum and needs to be cleaned as well. Twist out the baffle tube by turning 1/4 turn clockwise. Remove any hair or debris wrapped around baffle tube. Baffle tube can be rinsed if needed. Allow to dry thoroughly.
7. Remove the hose from both ends. Use a broom stick to loosen and remove any clogs from the main hose.
8. Remove the bottom plate and the brushes as instructed in the owner's manual. Use a wooden spoon or something similar to gently break up and remove any clogs from the lower hose.

If the filters are too dirty they may need to be replaced. With regular maintenance the filters should be replaced about once a year. Follow the links below to order replacement filters for your UH20020.

It runs but not pick up dirt in cup

Hello! If the dirt is not entering into the dirt cup this could mean there is a clog in the vacuum or a filter that needs to be cleaned or replaced. Check that the brushes are still spinning. The vacuum has a brush-roll shut-off pedal on the right side of the cleaner if you are standing behind it. Below are simple instructions for checking your vacuum for clogs.

9. Inspect the belt for damages, if the belt is broken replace the belt with a Genuine Hoover belt part 562633001 Flat Belt Nano Upright

How do you empty it?

There is a black clip at the top of the dirt cup which holds the dirt cup in place on this vacuum. Pull back on this clip with one hand and with the other you will be able to remove the entire dirt cup assembly. Once the dirt cup assembly is off remove the lid, and take the bottom portion to the trash can and dump. Tap the side of the cup slightly to remove excess dirt. Romove the dirt cup filter inside and do the same. Replace the fiter and the lid and put it back on to the machine. You should replace the dirt cup filter every 6 months to a year. Part is below:

I recently cleaned all the filters in my Bissell powerforce, now instead of suction I get all blown back instead.

take all the filters out put the dirt cup back in then try it again.3 filters 1 on the bottom of the dirt cup and one above the dirt cup and one in front at the bottom behind the little door.if thats not it at the bottom on the right side you will see a clear hose thats your intake hose, one screw holds it on,take it out and bend a coat hanger so the tip is rounded ,then work it down into the clear hose ,you should be able to push the clog out through the bottom
