The needle on the right in my Kenmore 2/3/4D bends or the thread breaks continually in the same needle. I cannot use both needles at the same time as it causes this problem to occur

Set tension on speedylock model 7234

Unfortunately, because a serger uses different thread tensions to form the various stitches, there is no "set it and leave it" setting for everything. However, on most machines, the midpoint of each tension dial is the beginning point to create a regular overlock stitch. That is most often the factory setting, however, that may change over time and use requiring some tension tweaking by the user.

If you have trouble distinguishing one thread among them all, then try threading with four separate colors of thread. Then you can easily tell which thread/tension is out of wack. The ultimate tension is when the threads meet in the middle of the fabric.

One important tip: ALWAYS RAISE the presser foot when threading the machine and give each thread an extra little tug when threading the tension disk (this insures the thread is seated completely in the tension).

Second important tip: It helps to go through each stitch variation and write down in your owner's manual or a reference sheet what each thread tension setting works best for that stitch. Then you have a reference chart for the next time you need to adjust tensions and don't have to go through a laborious effort to recreate the stitch. The tension settings will change if your change thread weights, but at least you will a general beginning point to fine-tune your setting.

Does anyone have a suggestion? I have threaded the machine correctly but I cannot get the machine to sew.

You have a nice serger, so let's start with some basics:
Is your serger cleaned?
Go back to the instruction book and set the entire machine to the factory settings. For example, set all the dials to tension 4. Use quality thread which is made for your spool holder. Usually cones of thread work best. Use an appropriate fabric, not sheer, not very heavy drapery fabric. Make absolutely sure it's threaded properly. Finally, make sure all the threads are under the presser foot.....then start serging. If the serger still won't serge without tangling, it might be good to have it serviced. I find that buying a new serger is more useful than having a worn out one serviced. Good luck!

When we thread the serger . the thread is still skipping

Are you using the corfect serger system needles in it? Most domestic sergers will take the regular domestic needle 130/705X but work best with a serger needle with has a groove down the front as well as the regular back scarf. This helps with the thread pickup from the looper by the needles. Sergers also run much faster than domestic sewing machines so the tolerances are very fine.

My Bernina came with ELX705 needles and it does run better with these in it. Also you need to use mid size needles, don't go too small, probably a size 80 or 90 is best.

Check out this page for some good info as the different serger manufacturers do have their own recommended needle sometimes. http://sewingmachine221sale.bizland.com/store/page78.html

Always refer to your manual (or ring the manufacturer if lost) to double check what needle they recommend be used in your serger, it does make a difference.

I just changed my Kenmore serger's needle and it stopped making the overlock stitch. I rethreaded the machine twice and make sure the position of the needles is correct but it didn't help

Hi

If you have the operators manual for this serger, you should be able to follow the threading from the start successfully. Some machines have a better threading diagram on the machine itself.

The needles should have the groove facing the operator's position. They should also be fully inserted in their mounts. Most sergers do not release the thread tensions when the presser foot is raised, therefore, you must zero the tensions to make sure the threads are fully entered into the tensioners when threading anew. After threading, you must readjust your thread tensions to the desired tensions for the set-up you plan to use. Thread tensions should be recorded for each stitch set-up because each serger tends to be a bit different, and therefore, allows you to quickly adjust for the desired stitch needed. The different stitches are adjust and fine tuned by each individual thread tension.

Hope this helps

Need basic settings for Baby Lock BL450 Serger. Any idea where I can get it?? My book was lost. The threads don't wrap around the edge of the fabric. I've re-loaded 3 times following the diagram on...

Hi GailKelley,
I have the same model serger. I will make a copy of the stitches and figure out how to get it to you. I recently took my serger out of storage to start some projects. I always struggle threading it but love the look of the stitches when it is set up correctly. Be in touch. MnFriend

Problems With the Tension serger kenmore

Open the tensions (set at zero) and have the presser foot up when threading.

Make sure the antenna if fully extended.

Turn the handwheel so the upper looper is at it's highest position.

Thread, beginning at the right thread cone unless the manual indicates differently.

After threading, set the tensions back to the recommended setting.

If this does not help, please provide more details.

I dont know how to thread this serger. i dont

Have you opened the front of the serger to see if there is a threading guide.

Basically:

Lift the thread antenna to it's highest position.

Lift the presser foot and set the tensions to zero.

Turn the handwheel so the loopers are at their highest point.

Begin with the upper looper (first thread cone on the right/ end of looper is pointing toward the presser foot). .

Second spool is for the lower looper (end of looper is pointing away from the presser foot).

Third spool, right needle; fourth spool, left needle.

Be careful that the threads do not cross during the threading of the loopers.Follow all the guides, taking the thread under the presser foot and to the left side of the serger.

Set the tensions back to 3 - 6 and lower the presser foot. Sew a few inches and if the threads knit into a chain, you can then do a test sew with fabric.

Simplicity's Simply The Best Sewing Book has good information with regard to using a serger that you may find beneficial.

Threading my whites superlock 2500 serger

You can get sewing machine manuals online at sewingmanuals.com. I didn't see the superlock 2500 but there were other superlocks. They may thread the same way.
