Hey everytime i start my E10 it just comes up with a black screen saying that it needs to be updated, then it goes to 'emergency USB" and "v1.40" ehh.. i looked in the manual and tired to do some updates. but it just diddnt work.. i would appreciate help =]

Download and install lg phone drivers and the LG updater. Now connect the phone to PC with a USB cable. And launch the LG updater. This will fix your problem. If not let me know. I'll give a next solution.
If your PC does recognize the iRiver as a USB device/drive, there is an issue with the Hard Drive.
If your computer doesn't recognize the iRiver as a USB device/drive and can
read the files, there is an issue with the Circuitry in your e10.
Turn the lock off and
connect it to the usb port and press the reset button (small hole in
lower left of unit, use a small object like a paperclip. The screen should
change eventually to the "USB connected" screen. Disconnect the USB at
the PC to get the "Ok to disconnect" message. Pull out the usb cable
and hold down the "off" button. Eventually the unit will turn off. Turn it on and then off to verify it is working.
If nothing works, your iRiver needs to be returned to the manufacturer.
Yeh that happened to my E10. Just go to your nearest Iriver store (you can find store locations on the iriver site) and tell them your problem. They should send it to Melbourne to get fixed. I got mine back a few weeks ago and its fine!
There are 2 conditions related to the e10 Emergency USB message.
1. If your PC does NOT recognise the iriver as a USB device/drive, there is an issue with the Hard Drive.
2. If your PC DOES recognise the iriver as a USB device/drive and can read the files, there is an issue with the Circuitry in your e10.
In either case, your iriver needs to be returned to the manufacturer. If in warranty you can get this repaired at no cost (of course).
I took mine to JB Hi-Fi where I bought it from and they're sending it to the service centre for me ... if your 1 year standard warranty hasn't expired you can take it to the place you bought it from and they can ship it off for you and they log all your details and give you a number so you can call and check the status of the repairs ... that's the only thing that will solve the problem as far as I'm aware ... they need to actually replace parts in the iriver ...
